Shaffer Haus-Downtown Riverfront Retreat

Immerse yourself in the rich history of Downtown Manistee with our newly renovated and updated riverfront apartment. Enjoy views of the bustling downtown area, as well as peaceful moments overlooking the Manistee River. Our riverside apartment is also perfectly situated for enjoying popular local events like Sleighbell Weekend and Forest Festival.

​Upon arrival, you will ascend the entryway staircase 24 steps up to our spacious apartment with an open-concept floor plan. The rental is located over Port City Emporium gift shop, which we also own. Whether you're preparing a meal in the fully equipped kitchen, lounging in the cozy living room, taking in the views of a freighter making its way down the river, or gathering around the dining table playing games with loved ones, you will appreciate the freedom and flexibility of this thoughtfully designed space.

Manistee Beach Getaway

Zero issues, excellent location, really nice vibe, very attentive hosts, and an all around good time. Loved the river view patio and the central business district location. Just mere minutes from abundant food and shopping options and just minutes (via motorized vehicle) from 3-4 awesome Lake Michigan beach access points.This is our first time visiting Manistee and when we come back—we’ll be staying in this location again.

The home is in a very nice historic area with easy access to restaurants and shops. Lovely view from the deck. Taco’bout it was our favorite restaurant but TJ’s Pub was great as well. Home was clean and well stocked with all needed items.

Best VRBO ever!

This was the nicest rental we have stayed in to date. The location was perfect to be able to walk to shops, eateries, and even to Lake Michigan on the River Walk. The place was clean, big, and beautiful! Anita was great to work with and quick to respond. They gave us lots of great suggestions for where to eat and things to do. Manistee at Christmas time is just like a Hallmark movie and we had a lovely time. We will definitely go back!

Anniversary getaway

A lovely apartment in a fantastic location! We loved watching the river from the deck, and having shops and restaurants just steps away. It was also a great central location for exploring the area. We enjoyed easy access to beaches, trails, parks, and farm stands with local produce. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. It was a pleasure to return to after a day of hiking or exploring. Anita and Pat are wonderful hosts.

The Best!

We stayed 5 nights at the Shaffer Haus in beautiful Manistee. The space is charming, comfortable and very well appointed. The owners are friendly, attentive and welcoming. I can’t imagine a better place to stay in Manistee. You’re with walking distance to beaches, shopping, dining, entertainment and more. We loved our stay.

Hidden Gem

Like Manistee itself, this property is a hidden gem. The riverfront location is central to the charming Victorian downtown area. We appreciated the thoughtful interior updates, especially in the kitchen and bathroom, that modernize the space while preserving its historic character. Central A/C was a bonus. We look forward to staying here again for our next visit.

Overall the property and location are great. A small issue with loud (presumably drunk) people wandering River street at night and and into the early morning. Although this is to be somewhat expected on a Saturday night in summer. This is not a problem with the property or the owners, they are great.
