Location amazing, just a few mins from the cathedral, restaurants and bars. The hotel is an older style hotel, where you still have keys which you give in when you go out. The reception is manned 24/7 so not a worry about getting your key when you return to the hotel. Room wise, some are better than others. My first room

The staff from reception to breakfast was amazing. The ladies up front always remembered who we were and our room number when we returned to the hotel and needed our key. Our only complaint is that the room was incredibly noisy. There is a metro stop in front of the hotel, and ALL night long we could hear the bus/tram coming and going. We could also hear people in the rooms on either side of us and water running in the walls. Aside from the metro stop, the location was great; close to the train station, Duomo and restaurant/shops.

Website claimed you needed to check in by 2300 so I ran across the city to make this timing. On arrival he said to me that there is no limit to check in and it was an inaccuracy with the website...so maybe change that? I arrived at the hotel in good spirits regardless and they told me they did not have a room for me even though it was booked through this site. They put me up in a sister hotel across the city down by the canal which was not ideal. The hotel was straight out of the 1980s. If booking just prepare for a bed and toilet, everything else is very dated.

Although a little dated the room and bathroom were big, the bed and pillows very comfortable for me. Heating good; shower always had hot water and a good pressure. Staff on reception excellent and went above and beyond to help me when I was injured in Duomo square!

The location of the hotel is brilliant. Right in the centre just a few hundred meters from Duomo plaza. Unfortunately our first floor room was right next to a tram stop with trams every 30 seconds. The noise was terrible. Could not get to sleep in the evening and first trams at 5am woke us up. Had almost no sleep. The breakfast was ok croissant, coffee and juice. If the room had been at the rear or on a top floor maybe the experience would have been better and worth 4 or 5 stars. But the room was so noisy we just could not sleep. Final moan there was no facilities for making a morning cup of coffee in our room. No facilities at all. The bed was very comfortable and the shower powerful but the room was basic.

Brilliant location and good hearty breakfast. 5/5 for that. That said the hotel can do with a makeover - it is quite dated with poor lighting in the room, a broken shower head and no toiletries were supplied. The gentleman manning the reception two days consecutively helped me with hailing a cab, making logistics one less thing for me to worry about. My overall rating would be a 4/5.

We has a great stay at Hotel Rio. It is located in a great part of Milan, just steps from the Duomo and very close to La Scala.The are plenty of restaurants nearby and lots of upscale shopping. The breakfast was excellent. The room was comfortable with a large bathroom. The staff was helpful and friendly.

The location is fantastic-steps from the Duomo and metro. The breakfast was good but the seating area is quite cramped. Hotel staff are very nice but the rooms were uncomfortably small and the closest doors touched the bed so impossible to move. The water temperature changed constantly in the shower and the shower head kept dropping. I tripped over the step up into the bathroom when first arriving. Overall, we did not enjoy our stay.

I recently stayed at Hotel Rio in Milan, and while the location is excellent—just a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo—the overall experience was disappointing due to major security issues. Guests are required to leave their physical room key at the front desk when leaving, but upon returning, staff handed me the key without verifying my name or ID. This is a serious concern, as it means anyone could potentially request your key. Additionally, the in-room safe didn’t work, and no alternative solution was offered, which added to the lack of security. On the positive side, the room was clean, though very dated. Breakfast was basic and not ideal for vegans, though I appreciated that soy milk was available. Service was generally poor and unfriendly. Overall, the hotel’s unbeatable location is its only real strength—but until the management improves security and updates the rooms, I wouldn’t stay here again.

Room and bed was clean but it’s clearly an old hotel without much being spent in terms of refurbishment. Location is really great though, right in the centre. Breakfast was ok but it really was like eating in a shoe box as you are squeezed like cattle into a tiny room. I found it funny as it was really quiet bizarre. Think of a bedroom with 6 or 7 small tables and chairs! Clearly they have very limited space so they did what the could. Staff were nice enough. The lady on reception was professional but seemed generally grumpy and definitely does not offer a warm welcome which is a shame. I wouldn’t discourage someone from staying, but there are better alternatives and I’d definitely save money on paying for breakfast and eat in one of the many cafes that are in abundance nearby.

Hotel Rio is no frills but terrific! The location is perfect, super close to Duomo and other tourist spots, restaurants, shopping, and public transportation. The staff was very kind and helpful. I wasn’t able to sit for breakfast but was offered to take food with me, even before 7:30 am. The hotel was very clean and I always felt safe. The bed and pillow were comfortable. The shower water temperature was perfectly warm.

The rooms are so small you feel like you're in a cage. I felt claustrophobic and had to change my hotel. They told me to request a refund through expedia since I booked the hotel through expedia. And when I did just that, they refused to refund my money. The expedia agent was on the phone with them for less than a minute. Not only they didn't refund my money, they also wasted my time to go through expedia. They could've said from the beginning that they're not going to refund. Hotels are normally very small in Europe but this one was in another level. I highly recommend staying somewhere else. This hotel is not worth it. Don't fall for the prices and the pictures of the rooms.
