Detached cottage, in the peaceful village of Mortagne Sur Gironde with private heated pool including approved security pool alarm. Large fully enclosed garden with a superb built-in barbecue and terrace perfect for dining alfresco overlooking the fields and vineyards. In Mortagne there is a supermarket, bakers, butchers, pharmacy, bank, bar/tabac and tourist information. The port is a 10-15 min walk and has a number of restaurants which overlook the marina. The beaches of Meschers are only 15 mins away. Europe's largest zoo in La Palmyre, Aquarium in La Rochelle and an indoor pool complex in Jonzac and popular golf course further along the coast as well as other beaches with watersports. Superb area for walking and cycling with routes mapped out and the majority off road through the fields and vineyards.

Wonderful stay at La Sauvagette! We loved staying at this comfortable gîte in the gorgeous village of Mortagne-sur-Gironde. Vikki and Andrew were wonderful hosts, very helpful and friendly. The house had everything we needed, clean and well stocked with everything needed for self catering holiday including charcoal BBQ.The garden was lovely with great views across the vineyards. Pool was clean and warm and enjoyed by us all. Plenty of sun loungers and seats. Garden box had inflatables, brollies and beach towels.Village is fab with lots of restaurants within walking distance, butchers, boulangerie, pizza, mini super market. 15 min walk down to port with lovely restaurants and few bars and a weekly market.We will definitely return!

We had a lovely stay. Everything went very smoothly. Vikki, the host was very helpful both with answering any queries we had, and also recommending activities and restaurants. The cottage was clean and very well equipped. The pool and garden area was spacious and peaceful.

Comfortable, peaceful house on edge of village

Our third visit in 10 years :-) The house is in a peaceful lane, backing onto grape vines, on the edge of the pretty little Gironde estuary village of Mortagne sur Gironde. Huge garden, not overlooked. Great pool, Fantastic (new) big charcoal bbq, outdoor seating. UK FreeSat TV. WiFi is quite weak as it’s a very rural area, so wouldn’t recommend if you want to do any work on a PC during your visit. Bakery, butchers, great little supermarket and several restaurants in village, all within walking distance (or a short drive) from the house. The owner, Vikki is fantastic; always very prompt communication and so friendly and helpful. It adds to the positive experience of the stay.

Great 2 weeks

From the minute we arrived with the lovely welcome pack, we had a great 2 weeks holiday. The house was perfect in terms of size, location and equipped with everything you could possibly need for a great stay. We got great tips from Sue on events and music in the area. We ate out in the local pizza restaurant and in the restaurants in the port. We loved the huge garden and the pool. We'd love to come back again!

Beautiful location

Great location and lovely property. Very spacious inside and very large garden-kids loved playing ball games and the little tea set went down a treat with our little boy. Seating area was a bit warm as no shade and sometimes too windy for the parasol- would benefit from an awning. Fantastic facilities including good range of cooking equipment. The bakery down the road was a must visit for fresh bread and treats. Villa only 20 mins from the beach and 40 mins to Royan. Victoria was amazing at answering any questions as and when needed. Fantastic Holiday

We had a fabulous week at the property. 6 of us there, plenty of room in the house and a superb garden. Pool was perfect for the weather, with a large garden overlooking vineyards. Plenty of outside space for sitting and dining. The house was immaculate, everything provided that we needed for the week. All communication with the owner was great. The house is on the outskirts of a lovely village, we walked into the village every morning to get pastries for breakfast from the bakery. There’s also a small co-op for other essentials. We had a great meal at the port that we could also walk to. It’s in a lovely area with lots to do. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting to holiday in the area.

Fantastic relaxing holiday

From booking this villa - to arriving - to leaving, everything was really easy. Vikki was great always ready to answer any questions straight away. The property manager Kim and her husband Phil are brilliant, very informative about place’s to eat and where to visit. Anything you needed they sorted it out. The villa, garden and pool are beautiful. The Most relaxing, tranquil place we have ever been to. The only noise was bird songs which is lovely. We would highly recommend this villa

Relaxing holiday in an ideal location

The property is spacious, well appointed with a large garden overlooking a vineyard. There is a good pool which is well maintained. There are plenty of interesting places to visit and Mortagne itself is unspoilt with a good Bakery within walking distance. Well worth visiting the restaurants in the Port.

Return to Charente Maritime

Comfortable and well equipped property with large garden and open views. The garden is private with good size pool and is not overlooked. It is an easy 5 minute walk to a village with all amenities . The surrounding countryside is pretty and varied and excellent for cycling on quiet roads and trails. Good beaches within half an hours drive - perfect relaxation for all the family.

Cherry time in Mortagne

A lovely, well cared for and comfortable Gite in a quiet location, just right for ‘getting away from it all.’ We enjoy being in France and the location offered all we were looking for, the chance to cater for ourselves using the local shops but also some good places nearby to enjoy the local seafood; not to mention the succulent cherries, courtesy of the neighbours cheery tree. Not to mention the local wines! A lovely gite in a lovely setting.

Perfect Villa

Had a great 2 weeks holiday. The villa was spotless with brilliant facilities, the pool was great and the garden is huge! Located in a lovely area, walking distance to shops and restaurants and just a short drive to some lovely beaches and towns. Would highly recommend this place and the photos definitely don’t do it justice!

Superb house, well equipped, tranquil setting, convenient for village shops, great value

This was my partner's and my second visit to this house with private heated pool and large garden, set on the eastern edge of the village, backing onto vineyards. The garden is screened from the property to the right of the house by large hedges, so is quite private. To the left is a field about 150 feet wide before the next house, which is also well hedged. We love the tranquillity and the convenience - the village bakers, butchers, pizzeria and supermarket are all about 10 minutes walk away and the restaurants in the pretty little port/marina are about 20 minutes walk away (beware, there is a steep hill to climb back up from the port, which can be hard work after a meal!). The views over the port and Gironde estuary from the top of the village are beautiful. The house is well equipped and comfortable with good WiFi and UK TV via FreeSat (and French TV too). There is a covered area behind the house with a table and chairs under it, which is great for taking refuge from the sun (it was 30 degrees C some days during our stay). The built-in garden BBQ was a good way to end the day with the sun setting and the large variety of birds flitting over the garden. We think that this house represents great value for money. As per our previous visit, the owner, Vikki is very friendly and responsive to messages. I'm sure we will return again.

Very Relaxing Holiday

The property is set in an unspoilt village and is within walking distance of a few small shops. The house overlooks vineyard and countryside and has a pleasant swimming pool in the garden. The layout of the house makes it ideal for a couple or family. It is very clean and everything exceeded our expectations. We were sorry to have only booked one week as we would have enjoyed a longer stay. There are several small towns and good beaches within a short drive and we had no difficulty in finding restaurants locally. Overall, thank you to the owners for keeping good standards throughout. No problem in recommending this to anyone wanting a peaceful, relaxing French holiday.

lovely well equipped property in good location

We enjoyed our September stay in this lovely spacious property. The whole property was large and stylish with attention to detail which is lovely for a rental property. It was great having such reliable wifi and British TV for the darker evenings. We would recommend it to anyone looking for peace and quiet but still have access to amenities. Great to be able to wander into the village for a baguette or bottle of wine!! The pool was lovely and given the time of year was heated to a nice temperature! The area is beautiful for walking or cycling with Mescheurs a particular favourite. Local restaurants served good food at reasonable prices with loads of fish on the menu which was a delight!! Would highly recommend.

Fantastic Cottage in a lovely setting

What a fantastic setting this cottage has. The photos just don't do justice to this pretty cottage and its surroundings. The living / dining space was large and bright, with a well equipped kitchen. The pool was fantastic and we enjoyed it so much we didn't didn't really need to venture out too far. We would have liked the pool a degree or two warmer, but this is only because of the breeze (a relief on the extra hot days we had). The garden is huge and what a view! Vineyards at the back, very quintessentialy French. Our children had stacks of space to have many games of football, pétanque, quoits, and even badminton ( with the sets from the supplied box). The area felt safe, and our eldest children loved walking into the village to buy croissant and bread for the day. Having a big supermarket close by meant we were able to cater 'in house' most evenings and we enjoyed several BBQ on the patio watching the sun set with obligatory glasses of rosé ! The local pizza place Chez Feu-Feu was great. Their pizzas were large and stacked with toppings ( we had to save some for the next day). If there was one thing we would love to see in the future, it would be an outside shower and toilet. This is only my preference as don't like people coming straight out the pool and going through the cottage wet, especially with tile flooring. All in all our stay was fantastic. The weather was very kind and the cottage was spotless. Vikki made sure that we had all the information we needed to have a great stay, and was always quick to respond to e-mails. We hope to be able to be able come back again.

Very compact,well maintained, and easy to manage.Many interesting places within easy driving range.

The property is located in a quiet village,with a very nice port nearby.The ground around it, with heated swimming pool, makes it very safe and attractive for children.From Bordeaux to Royan,on to Rochefort and La Rochelle, there are many places of beauty and interest. An obvious heaven for wine lovers, there are many and very varied restaurants, with the fish offerings being very attractive, particularly shell fish.The people are friendly and helpful, even to those with little French. In short, it has all the ingredients for a happy, restful, and safe holiday.

Superbe location

Très belle location. Service au top. Très bien aménagée. Rien ne manquait. Bbq super. Piscine avec entretien à notre demande.
