Konak Stare Mame /Old Mom's Lodge in Gorski Kotar

Old Moms' Lodge is situated not far from the lake in the small and picturesque village of Mrzla Vodica in Gorski Kotar, on a hiking path just at the base of Mt Risnjak, one of Croatia’s seven national parks.

The Lodge is surrounded by untarnished nature: with birch trees, a stream, small lake, a stunning view of the mountain, and plenty of peace and quiet.

It is located a mere 800 m from the main local road.
You can spend the night in one of several pyramid-shaped huts, each one capable of hosting up to 10 individuals. The utilities such as toilets and showers are available in a separate cottage, while the electricity for charging your phones and tablets is provided by solar panels on site.

We recommend you bring your own sleeping bags, but it is possible to additionally rent sheets and blankets if you should require.

An open area with an overhead has 4 wooden tables, which can accommodate up to 30 people and the property has additional tables which can be used for comfortable dining. Guests also have the option of using the stove and grill area should they wish to prepare their own food.

Old Moms’ Lodge can accommodate up to 20 nature lovers and it is suitable for individuals or groups.

It is also possible to arrange for daily meals. All meals are prepared from locally grown, seasonal produce. Homemade bread is served for breakfast accompanied with honey from the neighboring bee farm. Cheese, eggs, jam and Old Moms’ Tea are also on the menu, along with homemade juice of elderberry and medicinal herbs.

We only use organically grown supplies in our kitchen and the property encloses a permaculture type garden where you can harvest your own herbs and seasonal vegetables and ultimately enjoy a healthy and tasteful meal. We offer local cuisine composed of simple,
tasteful and healthy dishes from Gorski Kotar.

On the nearby road to Podtisovac passing by the lake is a strawberry plantation where you can taste and buy fresh strawberries and homemade strawberry products.

The huts are heated and suitable for occupants so you can enjoy the green heart of Croatia all year round. In the hot summer months, Old Mom’s Lodge is the perfect retreat, with mild sunny days and cool nights for a comfortable rest. Winter offers its own magic and, when it puts its snow coat on the Lodge, it paints a romantic picture. You can often meet roe deer, squirrels and rabbits that pass by to greet you.

Biking, walking and hiking trails lead to the nearby national park Risnjak. Local attractions include: boat rides on the nearby lake in Lokve, exploration of massive caves “Lokvarka” and “Vrelo”, hiking a mountain peak “Snježnik” and geomorphological reserves “Vražji Prolaz” and “Zeleni Vir,” the source of the Kupa river. Diverse flora and fauna, a variety of local delicacies, and a rich cultural heritage can all be reasons for you to visit Old Moms’ Lodge where we will warmly welcome you in the small town of Mrzla Vodica.

During the hot summer months some of the most beautiful beaches in Kvarner are only a 30 minute drive away, and for a nearby refreshing swim, you can always go to the lake in Lokve.

We should not forget to mention that this destination is a favorite among fishermen. The lake in Mrzla Vodica has carp specimens up to 10 kilos, it is also filed with perch, pike fish, chub and trout.
