Avis pour Rusticae Fervenza Casa Grande & Restaurant
A wonderful building set in idyllic countryside. The is also a fascinating old mill, great walks along the river bank and through the woods. A truly magical place. There only seemed to be one chap running the place, he checked us in gave us a brief tour and disappeared. We saw him again at dinner, where he seemed to be waiter bar man and cook. The food was okay. The problem with this hotel is that there is only one layer of floorboards between upstairs and downstairs rooms. We were in room Quinte, which was a smallish dark room under the stairs. It was very noisy, you could hear everyone clomping upstairs to their rooms and you could hear everything! Bring a map, our sat nav packed up about 15 kilometers away, the car sat nav could not get a signal and just kept saying off road, Waze would not work, eventually Google maps kicked in and we found it. We did ring for directions but were just told to turn at the crossroads when we saw the sign for Fervenza, problem was finding the crossroads. When you arrive at the hotel there is no signage, it looks like a private house from the rear. Ask for an upstairs room. There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room, no mini bar, no information in the room, There is a nice flat screen TV, but no info about channels, Wi fi , most of the time did not work, but there is a hair dryer.Get an upstairs room, but be aware that people in the room below can hear everything. Avoid room Quinte, it is under the stairs, very noisy.
This was an amazing experience. the hotel is a piece of Galician history so brilliant if you like the countryside and history - avoid it, if your a modernista! The hotel is actually part museaum with spring water avaialble from a Spring within the restaurant - you just fill up a bottle and hey presto...minteral water (sin gaz!). The room was one of three or four in the upstairs of atraditional Galician farmhouse which still had a carved stone sink and open fireplace - just to show how life was up to the modern era. The site has a watermill and the river on which it stands is beutiful. Food at the hotel was as traditional as you can get in the Galician countrywide so if you are after authenticity then do visit. Make sure you have your sat nav in your car when you do venture into the deep countryside as this place is difficult otherwise to find. But the drive is well worth it, and the site is amazing. It also has a small pool which was a bonus. The staff were as Galician as it gets and very very nice people. We had a good chat in broken Spanglish with both the waiter and the receptionist. Oh and if you enjoy peace and quiet - this is a must go place to visit. Highly recommended. In terms of negatives - well if you find living 18th century style rustic is a hard play, then I'd mark down the hotel for comfort and condition, but most who look for authenticity can ignore such criticism and 'just enjoy the experience'.
The complex is beautiful, right on the river, with lots of paths and open spaces. Our room was very small, however, hardly room enough to turn around, and it was only a double size bed, not a queen. It should have been very tranquil, but the dogs went off in the middle of the night, waking everyone up. The food in the restaurant was good, but not as great as we had hoped. If we ever stayed again I'd try to ensure a bigger room, and on the upper floor, because the ceiling creaked every time the folks above walked around. The common rooms were beautiful, with a terrific open fireplace that would be wonderful in the winter.
Loved my overnight stay here. just follow your GPS to get there. yes it will feel like you are driving to the middle of nowhere but so worth it when you arrive. Gorgeous grounds, amazing restored mill house (request room on ground floor to avoid carrying bags up steep stairs), beautiful pool, delightful restaurant with its own spring water! Its like stepping back into history but with modern amenities. Highly recommend!
This is a wonderful sanctuary! The river the mill house the home the pool and the restaurant and spring !! The rooms are decorated cozy, clean and comfortable! It was very hot when we stayed so fans would have bee appreciated. The pool was such a benefit. Would be helpful to have more chairs or loungers for pool area or at least benches and tables. There were about 8 people around the pool and only 3 places to sit.
