About this property
Modern Rockridge Studio with Private Deck
Immaculate, well-designed cozy studio with soaring angular ceilings and artful décor/lighting located just three blocks from College Avenue. French doors open onto a large private redwood deck. Located in the heart of Oakland’s jewel neighborhood: Rockridge. You can easily walk to a notable restaurants, bars, cafes, coffee shops, independent shops, cocktail bars, and the Rockridge BART station.
The space
This cozy and private studio apartment was completed in June of 2018 by remodeling the rear portion of a 100+ year old Oakland home. The design team thoughtfully focused on creating clean lines, interesting angles, tiled accents, and modern flourishes while maximizing an extremely efficient use of the space. It has an airy and bright feel which is created by the presence of glass (windows and doors) on every wall, the 14-foot angular vaulted ceiling, modern tile in white/grey colors, LED wall edge lighting, and classic hardwood floors.
The studio includes a simple, well-organized kitchenette featuring a subway tile backsplash, full sized sink, under-counter refrigerator, microwave, coffee/tea makers, LED accent lighting, and all the basic plateware, glassware, and serveware needed to assemble and reheat small meals. Note: this is a kitchenette, not a full kitchen, it does not have a stove or oven.
The private redwood deck is accessible through French doors which open wide for indoor/outdoor living experiences on warm and sunny days. Relax beneath the redwood tree that provides some shade, take a meal at the garden table (seating for four) or enjoy a book while seated on the glider loveseat surrounded by succulents and California native plants in a re-purposed whimsical garden aesthetic.
Other amenities include:
• Queen bed with high quality mattress and linens.
• Bar height table seating for two.
• Midcentury modern armchair.
• Spacious bathroom separated from main living area by pocket door has ample vanity, tile floor, and glass enclosed shower.
• Smart TV with Firestick with access to programs like Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, etc.
• High speed WiFi inside and on deck.
• Artsy eclectic meets mid-century modern inspired décor.
• Double paned windows, insulation, and sound-proofing materials were used to minimize noise from the front portion of the home and neighbors. You may hear the hum of a coffee grinder or the attic fan at times, but otherwise you will be pleasantly surprised by the quietude in such an urban setting.
• Well-organized closet with full length mirror can accommodate both hanging, folded, and stored items.
• Small efficient wall heater with sleek design heats the space up in a toasty manner – and is especially fast when utilized in conjunction with the ceiling fan.
• Professionally cleaned prior to each guest.
• New washer and dryer (separate, covered storage unit on the deck)
• We provide coffee/tea/sugar and shampoo/conditioner/bodywash; clothes steamer, iron, and hair dryer also onsite.
ADDITIONAL RATES/FEES
• Street parking is free for but limited to 2 hrs between 8am-6pm weekdays OR we can provide passes for $10/day (up to 3 days) or $50/for a 2-week pass for anything longer than 3 days. The day limits are set by the City of Oakland.
• 3 night minimum on all federal holidays
• Guests staying for more than 10. Days are required to have a mid-stay clean, at guest’s expense.
• Dogs are considered on a case- by-case basis (no cats). Let us know in advance if you would like to bring a four-legged friend. There are house rules that apply, and an additional $15/day pet fee.
- There is a $75 late fee that will be assessed if guests are not completely out of the home by 11 am on departure day (unless otherwise negotiated).
- There is a $75 fee for lost keys for replacement, time and management.
NOTE: Owner has a small 14 lb dog named Layla, that lives in the main/front house. She loves to lay in the sun and sit at the top of the steps leading to the house. This means you may encounter her when you come into the gate to the property. She is friendly (and verbal!) and will likely greet you when you arrive or depart. It’s worthwhile noting that when excited she has a very high vertical jump (3' - 4'), especially when people enter the gate to come into the front yard. If you are uncomfortable with dogs, even a tiny one, this home may not be a good fit for you.
Guest access
The front portion of the home is owner-occupied. Entrance to the studio is through the front gate (shared) and then down a private paver path which is separated from the front yard by a locked side gate. The private paver path runs down the side of the house to the back deck/area. There is a shared door between the studio and the main house which is kept locked at all times. The studio and deck are both on the ground floor; the walkway is hardscaped with tight-fitting pavers and carefully sloped for ease of entry with rolling luggage.
Other things to note
We welcome: kind/considerate people of all colors, shapes, sizes, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender expressions, religions, and immigration statuses who will enjoy the home and care for it as their own.
When you submit an inquiry or booking, we will ask you for the purpose of your trip and who will stay in the space so that we can get a feel for your needs and assess whether we think the space will be a good fit for you. If you are new as a guest and have no reviews and/or a sparse profile, we will likely ask you to tell us a bit about yourself too.
PETS We consider pets (small, well-behaved dogs) on a case-by-case basis. Tell us about yours (weight, age, breed) and we’ll share our requirements to make sure it’s a good fit for all! Sorry, no cats.
If you are staying with us for longer than a week, sweeping the deck and plant watering out back will occur on Wednesdays and Sundays, with advance notice.
