Beautiful views from every window, private garden and parking for two cars

This lovely period property, built in the late 1910s sits just below McCaig's tower overlooking the town and it's beautiful bay.

Braemar is only a short walk from the town centre and its major transport links: train, ferry and buses (to Glasgow and Edinburgh) thus making it ideal for those that don't travel by car.

Offering a spacious lounge, modern kitchen-dining area and three comfortable bedrooms with original features and magnificent views over the Oban bay with the Isle of Kerrera and Mull on the horizon Braemar is the perfect home away from home.

Through the red storm doors the bright yet cosy lounge, to the right of the front door has a comfortable corner sofa, small desk, variety of book, games and DVDs as well as a smart TV and ornamental fireplace. The dining room on the left of the front door comprises of a dining table and chairs for 4-6 people. A small sofa in the alcove offers a comfortable place to read, chat or sleep and enjoy the warmth of the wood burner. The kitchen dining area, which was refurbished in 2023 offers a bright contemporary space with large sink, a four ring hob and oven, slim line dishwasher as well as a large fridge/ freezer. A washing machine is situated in the utility area at the back of the property with a backdoor to the garden.

The stairs lead up to the first landing where the family bathroom with shower over the bath, toilet and wash basin is situated. A door leads to the upper garden.

At the top of the stairs the Master bedroom offers a comfortable double bed, dressing table and a built in wardrobe with storage and the small en-suite with large shower, wash basin and toilet. The single room has a single bed and chest of drawers and the recently refurbished second bedroom has a double bed, a chest of drawers as well as a comfortable armchair which doubles as a put down bed.

All rooms face the beautiful views over Oban Bay, the marina, and the isles beyond.
The small garden to the left of the property catches the afternoon sun making it a perfect area to enjoy a drink or dinner outside. The second garden and viewing platform is accessible via steps to the rear of the property or via the door on the landing and is located on the old ‘laundry lawns’ above the rooftops. From here your can enjoy panoramic views over the whole of Oban; a perfect backdrop for a some cheese and wine or just watching the sunset.

If you do choose to travel buy car the house has it’s own private car parking space for two cars right outside the house.
The house enjoys consistent hot water, gas central heating, smart TV and fast internet. Even a pay phone is provided for those that don’t want to use their mobile phones abroad.

We welcome family with children but need to make guests aware that children need to be supervised as we do not provide baby gates, safety plugs etc.
Please be aware that we do not accept dogs (or other pets) at this property.

Home with a View

It is a bit of a climb up to this property, but we took a taxi on our first day with luggage and the views make the climb totally worth it! Lovely home; very accommodating for family of four. Missed black out shades on the long summer days, but otherwise it was delightful!

Great View of Oban

The house is high on a hill overlooking Oban. It's a little tricky driving up there but welcome to Old Scotland. There is a lot to see around Oban but we had some stormy weather when we were there so we went to the distillery.

Lovely updated period house with fantastic views

Loved this older home with its creaky floors and updated kitchen which was very cozy. The views are spectacular and we enjoyed exploring Oban and taking the ferry to surrounding islands. It is up on a hill so if no vehicle plan on some walking up and down some steep areas , you might want to take a taxi uphill with luggage anyway😉

Lovely home and great location

We had a wonderful stay at Braemar! The house is just as described. The views were incredible! It rained almost the entire time during our stay but my husband ventured to the viewing platform and said it was really nice. The house is comfortable and was equipped with all that we needed for our stay. The walk to town took about 5 minutes down the hill which allowed us to keep our car parked at the private parking space during our stay. Niall met us at the house and showed us the property. He even had a fire started in the fireplace to take the chill out of the room. So nice! Both Niall and Johanna were very responsive to the questions that we had. I would definitely stay here again. Great hosts, great location, and lovely house!

Great house and views

5 of us stayed there. It is on a hill with great views. Everyone loved the house and amenities. There is an uphill walk back from town, there are taxis available if so.eone cannot make the walk. We hope to visit again.

Beautiful home

We stayed for 4 nights in this beautiful historic home. The hosts were excellent, easy to contact, and had great local recommendations. The main street of Oban is just down a hill which made it very walkable for shopping, exploring, food, etc. We would absolutely stay again! Thank you!

Beautiful home away from home

We had a great time at this home! The owners were very responsive when we had an initial hiccup with the heating which was much appreciated. Oban is a good home base for exploring the islands and Highlands and having a private parking space was a real luxury. Hiking up to the secret patio above the house for whisky or wine before dinner was fun, especially since the sun didn’t set until 11 when we were there. The views of the harbor from every room are gorgeous. We’d definitely rent here again!

Wonderful location in Oban

Great location for a stay in Oban, short walk to downtown (but up on a steep hill). House was wonderful, 3 bedrooms all used and each of us was happy. The kitchen was functional and well appointed. The views from deck were fantastic. The owners are delightful people and quite responsive. Highly recommend this house.

The Braemar House was perfectly located to explore and enjoy Oban. It was an easy walk to the downtown area (and the Oban Distillery). The views from the property of the bay, with the Isle of Mull in the distance was amazing.

WOW - Highly Recommend

The property is wonderful! Johanna and Niall were great to work with. The house has beautiful water views from every room! The sitting garden was spectacular for views and for pictures! The house is well maintained, warmly decorated throughout, and charming. Neighborhood is friendly and you have the opportunity to mix in with full-time residents. Easy to walk down to shopping and find inexpensive taxis back to house. We recommend Braemar and look forward to planning our return visit!

A little slice of heaven

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home! The location was perfect. Lots of little touches that made us feel at home. The views were fabulous. The upper deck was a wonderful place to unwind with a cool beverage at the end of the day. The walk down to town was easier than I thought, just down the Jacob's ladder. Johanna was a joy. She responded promptly to a minor issue we had. I highly recommend staying here.

Zuhause auf Zeit in Schottland

Auf diese Reise mussten wir drei Jahre warten. Corona machte zweimal eine Umbuchung erforderlich. FĂŒr das Warten wurden wir mit einem wunderbaren Zuhause auf Zeit belohnt. „Braemar“ ist ein historisches Haus mit „Seele“, seine Struktur ist bei der Modernisierung erhalten geblieben. Wir mögen dies sehr. Das Haus ist liebevoll, ĂŒberlegt und geschmackvoll ausgestattet; die KĂŒche enthĂ€lt buchstĂ€blich alles, was man braucht, wenn man sich selbst versorgen möchte. Lebensmittel kann man fußlĂ€ufig einkaufen (es gibt sogar einen Bioladen) – oder ausgehen, wenn einem danach ist. Zur lebendigen Innenstadt von Oban lĂ€uft man maximal eine Viertelstunde – fĂŒr den RĂŒckweg hinauf sollte man vielleicht etwas mehr Zeit einplanen. FĂŒr ein Stadthaus ist die Lage sehr ruhig, der eigene Parkplatz direkt gegenĂŒber ist ein großes Plus. FĂŒr uns waren „Braemar“ und Oban der ideale Ausgangspunkt fĂŒr Touren zu bekannten und weniger bekannten Zielen. Letztlich haben uns die weniger bekannten am besten gefallen, wie Kerrera Island, Kilmartin Glen oder Craignish. Sollte die Wanderhose Bekanntschaft mit schönem schottischen Hochland-Matsch machen: kein Problem, die Waschmaschine im „Braemar“ ist sehr einfach zu bedienen, Waschmittel waren vorhanden. Das Highlight des Hauses fĂŒr uns war die Aussicht ĂŒber Hafen, Kerrera und Sund nach Mull. Welche FĂ€hre kommt gerade? Liegt ein schöner Großsegler an der Pier? Sind die Berge auf Mull heute zu sehen? Tragen sie ein MĂŒtzchen? Gibt es abends einen grandiosen Sonnenuntergang mit allen Farbtönen von orange, pink und lila, wie wir ihn sogar mehrmals erleben durften? Aber was wĂ€re ein Haus ohne Gastgeberin? Es war bereits vor der Reise eine große Freude, mit Johanna zu kommunizieren. Alles war fĂŒr uns unkompliziert, auch die wegen Corona erforderlichen Umbuchungen. Ihre Empfehlungen fĂŒr die Umgebung von Oban waren sehr hilfreich. Und vor allem: wir haben sie von Anfang an als sehr herzlich erlebt! Danke, Johanna, und alles Gute fĂŒr die ganze Familie!

.a spectacular view and setting. It’s a long ways up on the back of the property but worth it. It is very close to restaurants, pubs and the ferry. Golf at Glencruitten is gorgeous but extremely challenging.

Great location. Hosts Johanna and Niaal showed true Scottish hospitality by getting more chairs for the viewing deck when they learned our son and grandson were visiting. The views from there were truly magnificent. An excellent and very enjoyable vacation.

Very well-maintained home with immaculate kitchen and room for family of four perched on a quiet in-town street just up the hillside a few minutes walk from the center of Oban. Beautiful views of town and harbor and quick walk to great restaurants, ferry, Marks & Spencer Foodhall and Tesco supermarket. And dedicated parking nook next to street directly in front of house - peace of mind for parking our rental car given narrowness of streets in neighborhood

Fabulous views and lovely home.

Had a lovely time. Views are stunning, especially from the decking after a climb up the stairs! So close to McCaigs Tower. House had everything we needed. Comfy beds too!
