Unique restored villa with private pool nestled in unspoiled valley
This is the place you dream of discovering when coming to Sicily, a place for tradition lovers and connoisseurs, where you can taste the simple and charming life of an enchanted past. Villa Molinum is an authentically restored miller's house, drenched in history and nestled in 4 hectares of unspoiled nature. A still working mill, an always-fresh creek at 20 meters from the house and a private pool complete the idyllic picture.
It would be really difficult to ask for more. And yet, here it is possible. You can, for example, go trekking in the bordering Hyblean Mountains, request a horse ride together with the owner, or a dinner cooked with local and organic products. Moreover, at a very short drive or at 20 minutes on foot you can reach the town of Palazzolo Acreide, one of the most stunning Baroque towns of Sicily and Unesco Heritage since 2002, featuring gorgeous churches and an ancient Greek amphitheater. The local delicacies are salami and bread made in all different ways given the millerâs tradition of the area, but you will delighted by wine and artisanal beers too. And do not miss a visit to Corsino, the oldest patisserie in town! Finally, Syracuse, sandy beaches and on the other side Mount Etna are at only 40 km.
In short, Villa Molinum is where authentic features, modern comforts, superb surroundings and a strategic location unite to create a dreamlike atmosphere and let you live a holiday of wonder.
Amazing and very unique place!! An old water mill estate restored, decorated and re-furnished with lots of taste to create a unique and genuine atmosphere!
The owners (Rossella and Mario) are wonderful hosts, very friendly! They will do everything to welcome you and make you feel at home, they became like family to us! The house is super clean, they can provide cleaning services throughout your stay, organize meals (from breakfast to dinners) with prime products from the area of Palazzolo Acreide so that you can discover the best of this Eastern part of Sicily! Rossella really knows how to receive guests, it truly is a "family home" where you feel you have spent all your life and holidays! Incredible hospitality!
We also met Sandrine, who helps them to take care of the place, she is fantastic and sweet as well!
We really felt home (and even better!)!
Staying there and meeting them were a wonderful experience! We are already looking forward to travel back to Palazzolo Acreide! A warm thank you to our hosts!
The villa is in an absolutely lovely setting with a very old still-functioning mill with a working millstone. Rossella and Mario were amazing. They were so responsive and helpful. Including making a dinner reservation for us the night we arrived exhausted after flying all night, and again on Wed when all restaurants were closed they found us a lovely little place. They make their own honey
We had an amazing stay in Palazzolo Acreide! The hosts are so kind and helpful with all things in the area and helped arrange horseback riding and a wine tasting for us. They made our time there incredibly specialâour whole familyâs favorite!!!
Nestled in a valley just a twenty minute walk to Palazzolo Acriede sits a secluded paradise. We chose the villa because of its proximity to Siracusa, Noto, and many other sites in southeastern Sicily, but the villa was so quiet and comfortable that we spent a couple of days just enjoying the pool and the peaceful sounds of the water and the birds. The kitchen is large and well equipped, and easily accommodate the eight of us. Mario and Rosella were the consummate hosts. Thank you Mario for helping us find the clinic. This villa is a fantastic treat, and I we hope to return one day to just relax and enjoy this paradise again.
We loved our stay The Millers Cottage. The property is beautiful - exactly the Italian countryside stay we were looking for. The Cottage was really perfect for our family -huge kitchen, cozy fireplace in the living room and views everywhere you looked. A treat was to see our hosts animals - dog, cats, horses and mule. Our hosts were very helpful and responded quickly to all our calls for directions or restaurant recommendations. Easy spot to get to the local towns we wanted to visit - Noto, Ortigia, Ragusa and airport. We would definitely recommend staying here. Thanks for helping us make wonderful family memories! The Campbell Family
This is a beautiful property, deep in a valley, not far from Palazzolo Acreide, a charming, although somewhat isolated town a 45 -55 minute drive from Siracusa. Mario, the owner/ host, is delightful and helpful in every way, and we all enjoyed interactions with him and Rosella and Orso! This is a very old and rustic house and its charm is also its shortcoming, in terms of the bathroom situation, which is uneven. Still, we, a three generational family had a wonderful time exploring the valley, some of us on horseback, and the plains of Akrai, with a smaller version of Siracusaâs Greek theater and other wonderful ruins designated a UNESCO site. Palazzolo Acreide has some gorgeous baroque buildings, the ruins of a Norman castle, many delightful restaurants and a cooking school with Chef Turi. Alyssia, who also does cooking classes, came to cook for us two evenings. We also explored Noto, Ragusa and the Roman Villa Casale as well as Siracusa itself. Sicily is a wonderful island, the Sicilians are warm and hospitable people and we hope to return.
We visited in July 2019 and our party of six ranging in age from four to ninety had a fantastic time at the villa. Rosella and Mario were so welcoming and ensured that we were made aware of all that the villa and the surrounding area had to offer. The property is situated in a lush valley, and the grounds are laid out to make the most of the scenery. An aqueduct and various water courses run through the grounds which with the sound of running water as the only background noise makes for an incredibly peaceful place. The swimming pool area is particularly well laid out and we spent many happy hours there. The villa is well equipped, comfortable and the shabby chic interior design adds to the relaxing feel of the place.
The villa is well situated as a base to visit the beautiful baroque towns and villages of Ragusa and Syracuse Provinces and it is only an hour and a quarter from Catania airport. We were lucky enough to visit during the celebration of St Paul which was a fantastic spectacle of fireworks and confetti watched by thousands crammed into the small town of Palazollo Acreide.
in summary a wonderful part of the world and the perfect place to experience it from. Thank you Rosella and Mario.
We spent a week in this idyllic house. We had 5 adults and 1 three year old and everyone loved their stay.
The house:
Absolutely stunning, with plenty of space for even a larger group. Totally tranquil surrounded by nature - you listen to the waterfall cascading down while sitting out in the enclosed upper garden (perfect with an active little one).
It was warm when we stayed, but the house remained cool and pleasant all day and a comfortable temperature for sleeping.
The pool:
Is a great mix of shallows for the little one and nice for swimming and lounging or cooling off while you sunbathe in the comfortable loungers. There is a shower, toilet and fridge by the pool so perfect to let you spend all day down there.
The grounds are stunning with aquaducts running around the terraces leaving a lush green garden with orchards and herbs. Everything smells lovely.
The town is just the right size, with amazing local produce (we went to the local fishmonger and cooked the best tuna I've ever eaten one night) and plenty of restaurants and shops.
I cannot recommend it enough!!
My family of 10 (ranging in age from 5 to 86) spent 14 very happy nights here. The 300 year old beautifully restored millerâs house is located in a serene oasis on a rushing spring-fed stream and has beautiful views of the surrounding area. It was probably the best vacation weâve ever had. The property has fruit trees, terraced gardens, horses, a lovely patio with great morning sun, a large dining table inside and another outside. We were so happy there we travelled around less than we thought we would. Mario and Rosella were so warm and welcoming and also helped with many sightseeing ideas. (Take the tour of the 14th century mill with Mario on the property.) The local town, Palazzolo Acreide, a three minute drive, is a UNESCO heritage site and deservedly so. A walk through the piazzas, the narrow streets and the 3rd century BCE Greek amphitheater is a must. Although itâs a small town, there is first class food there both in the restaurants and the various markets. We bought beautiful food in the town. Corsino and the shops close to it including the bakery and the cheese store at the top of via Nationale were all wonderful. The fruit and vegetable stores everywhere and the fish market are superb. Igorâs gas station had superb coffee all day for those who wanted it. After visiting the towns nearby, we would go back to the house which is beautifully cool in the summer. We spent our evenings by the pool with our feet in the water as the children swam. (The pool is not heated, but the children loved it.) The pool house is brand new and beautifully appointed. The linens are all of very high quality and deserve a mention. The main thing to know is that itâs restful, clean, beautiful and the perfect balance of rustic and comfort. Do be sure to visit Siracusa, Ortigia (before noon to catch the market), Ragusa, and especially Noto.

Beautiful, quaint, relaxing
Lovely old farm house. Lovely thick stone walls. Pool area really nice and relaxing with the sound of the waterfall. Little BBQ area under a tree. So picturesque. Great location, close to little town with nice bars and restaurants and small supermarket. 1 hr from airport and loads of little baroque towns and unesco sites. Go to Ragusa and Noto and Seragusa
The property is very characterful and the running water around the terrace feels very special. We arrived on Water Mills Open Day so even got a demo! The owners were charming and we loved that they had horses and bees there so it felt like a living place rather than just a holiday home. It's within easy walking distance of Palazzolo Accreide too which has interesting history, good restaurants and independent shops. We also bought in a meal from the owners' friend's menu - excellent food. Enough for two nights!
I can't say enough good things about this place. It is picturesque, comfortable, quiet, surrounded by beautiful countryside and fields of wild flowers. The manager, Mario, gave us a great tour of the centuries old mill on the property. Our days were idyllic--we'd sleep late, then take off about 11:00 to tour one of the small towns in the area. After a quiet lunch in one of the hundreds of small, delightful restaurants we'd return home to sit in our beautiful back yard and read while listening to the mill stream coursing by our house. The kitchen in the house has everything you could conceivably need, but there are restaurants in Pallazo Accredide just 5 minutes away. Shopping is easy and convenient, with butchers, bakers, produce stores, and supermarkets nearby. Perhaps the best vacation you've ever had!
