This cozy cottage has breathtaking views of Smith Mountain Lake and plenty of space to accommodate large families. Features include: a large dock perfect for swimming, fishing, or boating; large covered deck great for entertaining and grilling out; and a fire pit for making s'mores or relaxing after a day in the sun. There are 2 single-seat kayaks and a paddle board available for your enjoyment, as well as 3 TVs, a DVD player, a foosball table, and WiFi throughout. You'll love staying here any time of year!

Great house with amazing lake views. We were there in December (with snow), so not a lot of outdoor activities for us. The house was perfect, with enough room for the 8 of us. The family room in the basement was amazing for watching movies, and all the bedrooms were comfortable.

The home was perfect! Clean, comfy, had every thing you could want! The fishing were not biting but a day is always the cure for everything! We had our early family thanksgiving and were lucky enough to enjoy it outside with gorgeous view!

The location on the cove was perfect, and we appreciated the short walk to the lake. The house was very nice and we enjoyed using the deck space with the table, the lower porch bed swing, and the fire pit. The dock worked very well for tying up our boat.

Wonderful Penhook Hideaway

The house was clean. Bedding and towels provided. Games and movies. Paddle board and kayaks also. It was a perfect location at SML and we all enjoyed it, young and old.

Fishing trip

Had a Great stay Very Nice Place was real thankful the grounds weren’t steep to the dock. The fishing was one of the best times . Ive rented some where at the lake for the past 5 yrs and this is the best rental by far.

Quiet oasis

It was absolutely beautiful! We had a wonderful time! Fully stocked. Loved the layout. Lots of space to spread out the sleeping arrangements. Owners were quick to respond. Make sure to dive at the end of the dock. Otherwise you can hit the bottom when the lake is dryer. We really enjoyed the clean, clear lake water of SML! Will come again. The only downsides are the older appliances( but they are replacing the stovetop, which didn’t fully work), cheap pots and pans, upstairs shower head needs replacing(was wiggly and older), and TV upstairs wasn’t a smart TV. Otherwise, the beds were so soft and comfortable w/ pillow toppers, downstairs shower was awesome w/ 2 shower heads, wonderful location on the lake, amazing deck overlooking the lake where we ate all our meals, awesome dock, and overall wonderful vacation house!

You couldn't ask for a better View!

While the two level living is great when you have kids, the key to this property is the breathtaking view. Two decks and huge windows showcase The View. The water is also super clean and calm to.swim swim iswim in right off the dock

Penhook Hideaway did not disappoint! Location is great and the house accommodated just what we needed. We loved floating at the house, cooking meals and lots of back patio sitting. SML is such a wonderful place! Can’t wait for our next trip!

Family Fun

The view from the house to the lake was amazing. The yard down to the lake was very easy to walk with the perfect fire pit for the evenings! We loved the dock and the ability to swim right off of it in a very calm inlet! The property could use some updates to the kitchen appliances (not everything works), and new mattresses, but overall our family of 9 enjoyed the property very much and we would all recommend to any family looking to relax and enjoy the amazing lake! Hope to stay again!

Smith Mountain Lake Family Vacation

Great house for a family vacation! Huge yard, easy access to the lake, and a boat rental marina just a few steps away. Everything you need to cook family dinners, enjoy time reading, watching movies, sitting on the dock fishing. Highly recommended and we hope to come back every year!

Family fun on the lake.

Our family has been going to SML for the past few years and this was our favorite rental so far. The level lot was so nice to access the lake and the view was amazing. Our family ranges in age from 2 years to 85 years and Penhook Hideaway accommodated all of us. The kids had a safe area to play in shallow water and the adults could swim and dive in the deeper areas. Having the kayaks and paddle board allow more of us to enjoy the water. We look forward to returning again next year.

Amazing Spring Break getaway!

Penhook Hideaway was perfect for our family, ages from 7 to 82!! The gentle slope of the lot made it feasible for my parents to make it to and from the dock and enjoy watching the kids fish and play in the water! The lot frontage on the water was amazing, a beautiful view on a peaceful cove! The home was perfect for our group...the kids stayed downstairs and had fun with the foosball table. The fire pit area provided much enjoyment on cool nights, with smores enjoyed by all! This is definitely one we will book again ! Thanks so much !!

Great place to relax at the lake!

The property was great with a great view. The owners really try to create a great experience for the renter. The only hassle is having to bring all your own sheets, comforters, and towels. It is just a lot to pack but we did like having known clean linens. It is a trade off but some renters may not have enough room to bring enough linens for 4-6 beds and however many people. If you bring your own linens anyway, this is the place for you. It was a very clean house. The fire pit is a great addition to the experience. There is a public boat launch less than 5 minutes from the house. We enjoyed our stay for sure.
