This private suite is situated at the edge of a small city along the banks of an oxbow on the Assiniboine River. The massive picture window in the living room frames a view of the private deck and river that seems to erase the walls of the space and transport the outside in.
This suite is on the lower level of a large home. It includes a large living/dining space, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with rainfall shower and laundry facilities, and one bedroom with a king bed. The living room has a pull out couch for extra sleeping space. The suite and its deck are private and for guest use only. Guests are welcome to share the yard, hot tub, sauna, and paddle boat.
While we love hosting children for the joy they bring, we are not set up as a specifically child-friendly space and request that adults monitor their children in the suite and on the yard as there is water access from the grass. We also do not have cribs, highchairs, or other small-child focused amenities.
We know that pets are also valuable members of our families and we love to welcome them. In order to keep our space inviting for future guests who may have allergies, we charge a $50 pet fee to cover the extra cleaning costs associated with the deep clean needed after a pet stay.
The Ox + Bow suite is accessed via a door with keypad lock that will be set with a personalized lock code. There is parking provided at the front of the home.
My parents, partner, and I live on the same yard. We respect our guests desire and expectation of privacy but are available for whatever our guests would need.
Portage la Prairie is a small city in the Central Plains Region of Manitoba, Canada. The community sits on the Assiniboine River, and is a 15 minute drive to Delta Marsh and Beach on Lake Manitoba. Portage is home to festivals, recreation opportunities, a golf course, sports tournaments, and museums including the Indian Residential School Museum of Canada.
Our vacation rental is located about 1 km outside of the city proper on a quiet rural cul-de-sac on the banks of an oxbow of the Assiniboine River. There is no through traffic and the street has access to a myriad of walking and biking trails. Our neighbourhood is located on paved roads with easy access to both the city and the highway. We are fully serviced by delivery services for restaurants as well as taxis.
The Ox + Bow is located on Treaty 1 territory and is the ancestral home of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples and is the homeland of the Métis Nation. Our family is descended from Mennonite refugees who were invited here by the Canadian government and welcomed by the ancestral keepers of this land. We are working to incorporate the 94 calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Committee into our business.
