Villa Santa BĂĄrbara
Located between the beaches and the historic center, Villa Santa BĂĄrbara is a private property with three independent houses - Casa Maria, Casa AntĂłnio, and Casa Adriana. The Villa was once one of Porto's typical housing clusters known as "islands." The houses have old masonry walls and are decorated with Portuguese motifs. It's a tranquil space just 10 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Porto. Just like inside the houses, the outdoor environment is very cozy, romantic, and original. There is a very pleasant and exclusive open green area with benches, a swimming pool, chairs, fruit trees, an orchid greenhouse, and a herb garden. During the day you can hear and observe the birds. At night, there is a charming lighting system throughout the open space.
It's over 700 square meters that invite you to relax. Inside Casa Adriana there are two bedrooms: a private double bedroom and a double bedroom in an open mezzanine that can accommodate a child. All rooms have high-quality mattresses and sheets (Portuguese made). There are two separate kitchens with all kitchen utensils except an oven and dishwasher. The bathrooms offer complimentary shampoo, shower gel, soap, and toilet paper in sufficient quantity for the first few days of your stay. Replacement hygiene packs are available. Each guest will receive high-quality white towels, all made in Portugal. There is also air conditioning, cable TV, and free Wi-Fi inside the houses and throughout the garden. Villa Santa Barbara has private parking, which can accommodate up to 3 vehicles and is monitored by cameras. Your host will always be at your service. You can ask for advice about the city, regional festivals, interesting areas in the country according to the date of your stay, travel tips in Porto, and much more. You can even explore Portugal with them. The surrounding area has a genuine Portuguese spirit. The name Villa Santa Barbara comes from the name of the street where it is located and is a tribute to the patron saint of the church on the same street. The church is beautifully decorated with Portuguese tiles and is well worth a visit. In the neighborhood there are many amenities, such as: a supermarket, a fruit shop, a pastry shop, a barber shop, a bakery, a coffee shop and a butcher shop. There are also restaurants, large markets and a shopping center: Gaia Shopping, Aldi and Lidl. The property has an excellent location between the beaches and the city of Porto. The famous Port wine cellars can be reached on foot. There is also public transport nearby: a bus (100 meters from the villa) to the center of Gaia and Porto (Av. Aliados) or to the beach; and a train station, called "Gaia or Devesas". It is the main station of Vila Nova de Gaia and is just a 10-minute walk from Villa Santa BĂĄrbara. At Devesas there are trains to other cities, such as: Braga, GuimarĂŁes, Lisbon, Coimbra, Aveiro and so on.
The property is perfect- the garden is large and wonderful, full of fruit trees, an herb garden, plus seating and lounging options. It's a hidden paradise. The house, Casa Antonio is thoughtfully renovated and you can see the design and craftsmanship throughout. Same goes in the garden! Nuno (and Isabel) are fabulous. Do not miss hiring Nuno for a night tour of Porto, a day trip to Braga or the Douro Valley. Before we arrived we got suggestions of places to see along our drive from Lisbon. Nuno designed a great map at the house and has highlighted places to visit and various transportation options to get to where you want to go. We make a point to see more than the tourist locations so it was invaluable to get suggestions from a local. I can guarantee if we had not taken Nuno up on his suggestions of where to go and what to see we would have missed the heart and soul of Porto and Vila Nova da Gaia. The Vila has everything you need for a perfect vacation.
