Our stay was nothing short of amazing. Michael was a very quality host who answered all our questions and made us feel at home, but was not too intrusive on our stay. He was perfect. Now the home itself....not many words can truly describe it. Being an open-air home in the jungle was such an amazing experience. It immerses you into the jungle. You get to experience sites and sounds found in very few other places on the planet. Yes, there were things to get used to (no AC, bugs, critters, sounds, etc.) but those are the things that make it feel authentically jungle. We found our sleep schedules change in a natural way and as a result we felt more refreshed each and every morning. I've never enjoyed a 5am morning coffee more than in this house watching toucans, macaws and other birds fly about and listening to howler monkeys in the distance. We wouldn't have wanted it any other way!
We really enjoyed staying in the jungle and being so close to nature. And it stretched out comfort zone in a good, adventurous way. We experienced the beginning of a possible transition in management but Michael handled it with pura vida. And gracias a Dios, everything worked out in our favor. We recommend it for anyone wanting to get close and comfortable with being in the jungle. :)
Amazing time with family and friends! Make sure you dunk in the cold plunge pool, take a chocolate tour down the road and see the sloths! Adventure down at the river and the beach is a short drive away!
Staying in this beautiful and unique treehouse, high in the green tree canopy, was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Hand crafted from gorgeous local wood, with four levels and open to the fresh air of the jungle, we felt absolutely in sync with the environment. It was an adventure to get there (four wheel drive is a must) but Michael's directions took us right there. On our first morning we awoke to howler monkeys calling, noting our presence in their neighborhood. What a fantastic introduction to the Costa Rican jungle! Beautifully designed and built, the treehouse has everything you need- the beds are comfortable, the kitchen in fine working order and the views sublime. There are a lot of stairs, which wind artfully around the central tree, so please note if that's a problem for you. Also, the house is open air, so there are a few bugs in the evening, but the fresh air is well worth it. The sweet town of Puerto Jimenez is just down the road, with groceries, restaurants and beautiful uncrowded beaches. Michael was a great host too, responsive to our may questions. All in all, our stay was fantastic and unforgettable.
Our stay at the Treehouse was an amazing experience in every way, and we certainly intend to return. Woke up each day to parrots singing and monkeys swinging by and drifted off to sleep each night to the magical solitude of the rainforest. Mike was a 10/10 host and even dropped off fresh vegetables, eggs and coffee ahead of our arrival.Miller familyCayman Islands
Watching monkeys and toucans eye level while drinking coffee in the morning, listing to the rain or wildlife during the night. Making dinner or playing cards in the evening 70 feet in the tree. We never felt scared or unconformable, but very alive, therefore our family of 5 will never forget that experience. Very unique tree house with all the the features a home needs. Thank you, Michael for opening your home to us so we are able to experience Costa Rica's rain forest at it best.
What an incredible experience it was to stay here!!! Definitely high-end accommodations for a treehouse. Michael was a pleasure to work with, was very accommodating when our flight was delayed and we got there late. We loved being in the trees and so close to so much wild life. I definitely would recommend for someone who loves nature and the outdoors. We all had an overwhelming feeling of sadness the day we had to leave.
It was very fun and a good experience, of course there was what you expect with bugs and creatures and all the jungle noises. When we went it was cicada season which was loud during the day but they quieted down at night. We were there during dry season so that could play a factor in the river, but we couldnât find the river and we walked a pretty decent amount looking for it. The only thing that was pretty bad was the beds⊠the sheets were clean and nice as well as the towels, but the actual mattress was moldy and dirty which made it hard to sleep. Over all we had a fantastic time lots of family time and it was definitely an experience and I would recommend as long as youâre prepared for the amount of creatures and you like the nature!
When we read the description of the treehouse experience and other guests' reviews, we were looking forward to seeing wildlife explode daily all around us as it was described as an exotic wildlife paradise. It was nothing of the sort. In our 3 days stay, not a single monkey, no parrots, no sloths, no nothing, even while trekking around the area. Instead, we had to face 2 huge spiders, 6 gigantic flying cockroaches, big geckos and all this with very poor netting around the beds (lots of holes). When paying so much money for accommodations in nature, you expect good protection for a good night sleep. The water bassin, i.e. the pool, is a little far down in the forest and is used by the staff to do laundry. Not very inviting. Mind you, the staff was very friendly and did her best to take care of us upon our arrival as the host was not there. In terms of fruits for smoothies and veggies for salads, staff struggled to find us only 2 limes. We did, however, have some spices. Overall, the treehouse itself and the surrounding vegetation was beautiful but our experience did not meet our minimum expectations regarding being surrounded by wildlife. We actually decided to leave one night early because we found it difficult to adapt to all the big insects in the house and didn't ask for reimbursement.
After a visit to the OSA Peninsula staying with Mike and Blondie in the treehouse two years ago ,we just couldnât wait to get back. We stayed in the new house on the property and enjoyed it as much as we did then. The property has breathtaking views, and you do feel like you are in the middle of the jungle. It is a wildlife paradise and they help you add all the adventure you want! 65 foot tree climb, rappelling down waterfalls, fishing, and lots of hikes day and night! Wildlife abounds!
Had an amazing time in CR, made even more fantastic by staying in this great house. Michael the owner/host was very friendly with lots of advice on what to do. We were looking for something a little different and peaceful, our family got it here.
First - the house. Set in a truly wonderful location. Little tricky to find first time, road was fun and sound advice is the 4x4 car rental! House had plenty of space for our party of 5, bedrooms were fine and the kitchens were well stocked with all the needed utensils. Overall donât expect house with all mod cons. You are in rainforest environment after all. While house could do with a little TLC, it is quite comfortable and my family really enjoyed our time there.
The location!! - Great place to relax and get away from other tourists and enjoy the bounty of wildlife on your doorstep. Every day we were greeted by Oliver (A big iguana we named!) hanging out in a nearby tree basking in the sun. Scarlet macaws flying by in pairs and toucans by the handful. We counted 9 toucans in one nearby tree one day....Amazing! Around 4 - 5pm a troop of squirrel monkeys would saunter through the trees while we sat on the deck. Tip bring binoculars oh and bug spray.
Summary - fantastic vacation and we would definitely go back
Christmas in a Treehouse
This was truly the trip of a lifetime! Finding it was fairly easy, but you definitely need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle. Iâm glad we took Blondieâs advice and let her rent the car for us. We drove down the coast from San Jose, which took about six hours. It was a pretty drive, and there were plenty of places to stop along the way.
Once we arrived we were met by the owner and designer of the treehouse, Michael. He gave us a quick tour, told us how to reach him or the caretakers if needed, and then left us to settle in. It made me feel good to know there was always someone around, but they didnât intrude on us at all.
It being Christmas, they were very thoughtful and had a small Christmas tree and a few decorations up. We appreciated that, as it was our first Christmas vacation away from home and we had our college-age kids with us.
The treehouse itself and the space around it was amazing. We were awakened at dawn every morning by howler monkeys and scarlet macaws, and lulled to sleep by the sounds of the forest. We enjoyed the dipping pool and trails just a short hike away. One of our favorite activities each evening was watching the leaf-cutter ants crossing the dirt road. We had several visits by spider monkeys â even a mama and baby!
Mike and Blondie have put together a book with treehouse info as well as recommended tours and things to do. We did most of them, and especially loved our time on La Sirena with Captain John and the dolphins, and our visit to the wildlife sanctuary was both educational and fun.
While the kids were a bit freaked out by bugs and bats our first night, they quickly learned to love treehouse life once they realized they were not on the menu.
The kitchen was fully stocked, and we had everything we needed to cook meals â although we did eat out in Puerto Jimenez quite a bit. We especially enjoyed The Iguana Lodge (high end), Restaurant Delphines (mid-priced), and Pizza Mailit was like home away from home. The owner, Josh, made us feel like family, and we enjoyed spending Christmas Eve there with some new friends. The pizza and smoothies were our kidsâ favorite.
This is definitely not for the squeamish or anyone who canât make the climb up the spiral stairs, but for those interested in eco-tourism and immersion into Costa Rican life, it really is an amazing place to stay.
