The hotel was overall okay, but unfortunately it is clearly starting to show its age. I have been staying at Riu Palace Punta Cana for several years, and this was the first time I truly noticed a decline. The bathroom in my room (35) had several broken amenities and showed a clear lack of maintenance. The drawers in the room were also very difficult to open and close, likely due to damage from humidity and salt air. Service was another disappointment! Some restaurant staff seemed to forget that they work in a five star resort. On multiple occasions, I witnessed staff yelling at each other and, at times, being rude to guests. Additional training on proper five-star service standards is clearly needed. It’s in these small but important details that the hotel’s prestige is being lost. Cleanliness was also a concern. I spent a lot of time in the cafeteria next to the lobby and saw cockroaches almost daily. I often found myself having to kill them with my shoes, which is unacceptable for a resort of this category. The entertainment was also disappointing. Since guests cannot really leave the hotel at night, entertainment plays a major role in the overall experience, but it fell short. The audio quality felt cheap, and the performances were uncomfortable to sit through for more than 10 minutes after dinner. Riu Palace should seriously look at similar Mexico resorts and consider adopting some of their nighttime entertainment concepts.

My family and I loved our stay at RIU Palace Punta Cana! The staff were amazing! They made the stay 100% better. The food at the buffet style restaurant La Isabella was pretty mild but the restaurant food was very good. Room was very clean although it had a slight smell when we first arrived. The only complaint I have about this resort which is an isolated event was that the smoke alarm went off for the first two nights multiple times. Pretty much scared me and my kids out our sleep two nights in a row and when we went to see what was going on I kinda felt dismissed (I believe it was due to the language barrier). Next day I did find out it was due to a guest smoking in their room. Overall, great experience!

The bed sheets were not changed daily. Six or seven years ago, when I stayed at the same hotel, it was much better. They used to do daily room decorations with flowers and towels in each room. This time, there was nothing. The Christmas dinner was also just so-so, with very little decoration.

Absolutely one of the best beaches. The staff is helpful and very friendly. Definitely our favorite place to go in the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

Great amenities and great service, even when the hotel was sold out, the staff was always happy to help us find a table wherever we were, and the fact that you can go to other Riu hotels is a plus
