Waterfront Home with Pier on Albemarle Beach
Our piece of heaven---a 3-bedroom cottage on the Albemarle Sound near the mouth of the Roanoke River---can be your vacation spot and fishing mecca. Enjoy your time at The Crow's Nest by relaxing in the hammock on the corner porch, rocking on the front porch watching the water activities, or being part of the water activities.
The 50-foot pier with a large deck at the end is a great place to enjoy the day but, especially, the sunset. The low deck and ladder provide easy access to a sandy-bottom swim area about 4- to 5-feet deep (NO DIVING). Lots of space for making memories with family and friends.
A paddle board and two kayaks are available for your enjoyment while you are at the Crow's Nest.
If bringing your boat, nearby Mackey's Marina offers slips and a boat ramp. The closest wildlife ramps are Roanoke River at Highway 45, Connaby Creek, and Plymouth.
This part of the Albemarle Sound offers excellent fishing ground for white perch, rock, bass, crabs, and other species. You can fish directly from the bulkhead and pier or take your boat to Swan's Bay, the Roanoke River, Mackey's Creek, or Batchelor's Bay. For a longer expedition, you could cross the Sound to Edenton (roughly 6 miles) and the Chowan River or head 10 miles east to the Highway 32 car bridge.
The Outer Banks is approximately an hourâs drive away and offers many attractions, such as the NC Aquarium, Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey's Ridge, Elizabethan Gardens, Jeannette's Pier, and the Atlantic Ocean.
If you're interested in nature and wildlife, you should check out Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Mattamuskeet, or the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Bear and wildlife tours are offered seasonally.
If history and culture are your thing, check out Somersett Plantation at Phelps Lake on the Pettigrew State Park; go in to Plymouth and explore the waterfront, the Roanoke River Lighthouse and Maritime Museum, the Bear Museaum, and Port-o-Plymouth History/Civil War Museum; or venture to Edenton to tour the Historic District including the Cupola House, the Iredell House, and the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse.
The Crow's Nest offers 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, plus an outside shower, all on one floor. It sleeps up to 9 people and has one central living room with seating and a large-screen TV. A screened-in porch wraps around 3 sides of the cottage and has rocking chairs as well as corner benches to catch the best breeze.
Dine inside or out. The bar counter in the kitchen seats 6 and a round table seats 4-5 more. The large picnic table on the front porch seats up to 8.
Full kitchen stocked with all the essentials and some extras. Electric stove/oven, double sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven.
Both charcoal and gas grills are available. A second full-size refrigerator is on the porch.
Everything was good overall. Had to bring basic necessities which wasnât convenient for me traveling. Was told to bring paper towels and TP but couldnât find shower towels anywhere? Neighbors are friendly and let me use the dock since the lower dock was being redone. Host was responsive to any message almost instantly. Pet friendly, clean. All in all, I would stay again.
Wonderful stay. The house was well equipped with everything we needed. Well stocked kitchen, lots of dishes, silverware, pots and pans (one thing I would suggest is a new can opener the one there does not work well). Beds were comfortable. The host was very accommodating (we locked the keys in the house and she responded to us right away). Would stay there again. Went to pocosin nature preserve to photograph the tundra swans. Drove to pea island for more photography. Excellent trip.
Perfect family getaway! My mom uses a walker and was able to navigate the property. There is a sturdy handrail on the wooden steps entering the house and the bed was not too high for her to get into. Such a cute home with a fun vintage appeal! Great view and wonderful lawn in front of the sound. Sharp knives and good pans for cooking.
This property is absolutely amazing! Wonderful location, cozy and homey, clean and everything you need to cook a meal and be comfortable. The hosts were absolutely the best! We definitely plan to be back!
3rd time staying here and we love it. They have simple supplies on hand which gives you time to come in a relax for a little bit before you have to make a store trip. The host has never been anything other than accommodating and helpful. Quick response anytime we have had to contact.
My wife and I rarely do repeat visits when traveling. This was our third stay at the Crowâs Nest and I hope to come again. The area is quiet and offers the perfect setting to be able to relax. Johanna and Tripp are wonderful hosts and I am truly grateful they have opened their home for us to enjoy.
We really only had the mornings to enjoy the beautiful view of the water. We got there late afternoon on Saturday and spent all day Sunday in OBX. Quaint little beach cottage - perfect for a short bestie vacation. We had a lot to catch up on after 30 years! Communication with hosts was excellent.
We had an excellent stay. The lake was absolutely wonderful, the sound of the waves breaking on shore was so calming, and the nice breeze was heavenly sitting quietly in the rocking chair on the back porch. Everything we needed for our weekend get away was available to use, dishes, fishing equipment, swimming toys, canoe, grill, beds and even a tv. We had an awesome family time. Also the humming birds were so entertaining. Thanks for a great time, with great memories.
