This large characterful farmhouse is a lovely country get-away with period and heritage features throughout. This property is surrounded by farmland with stunning views of the countryside, great for families and groups looking for a rural getaway. The Farmhouse lies in a heritage county just outside Whitchurch, a busy village, with a thriving local shop and cafe, an Indian restaurant and several nearby pubs and restaurants. The next nearest town is Monmouth, an historical town just 6 miles from the farmhouse where you will find two golf courses, shops, several churches, an historic independently-owned cinema, an ancient medieval covered bridge and the popular Nelson Museum. There is also a castle, near to the place where Henry V was born. The farm is also set on the edge of the beautiful Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Forest of Dean is very close by with walking, cycling, climbing, castle trails and many other activities. The property is set down a private lane and is detached. There are grounds surrounding the property which guests can enjoy as well as an orchard to the front of the property.
Overall this was a good stay, rooms were nice and clean and there was plenty of space for 10 adults to stay. However, both ovens failed to heat properly which made cooking a bit of a pain. Check in process was not great, only being able to arrive between 5-6, the owner did not respond to any prior messages. Despite this, the local area was stunning, and the house was fit for purpose and good value considering the price of other locations in the area for a group this size.
I've tried to speak with the owner before posting this but have had no reply.
Beautiful location completely spoilt by the classic/abandoned cars in the front garden making it unsafe for children and dogs. Field next door is similarly blighted. This spot is a blot on the otherwise beautiful scenery.
2 cookers both in need of deep and thorough clean. 1 grill and 1 oven not working. Fridges and surfaces clean. Lots of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans.
Characterful/shabby chic v tatty & run down is a fine line.
Linens provided, clean, bedrooms tidy. All bathroom fittings in need of attention. Wooden toilet seats are quirky but not hygenic. Toilets not fully flushing, guests wary of using showers over the baths.
Carpet squares everywhere - we lifted as a trip hazard to seniors, kids and dogs!
Log fire great but only sufficient fuel for part of the 1st cold night. Heating is otherwise good.
Original sash, single glazed windows, in need of a good clean.
3 families, only 1 door key. The yale lock not working.
Basket of local info, some from 2017... 1 map of the area so worn it is of no use. No house book for comments no walks from the door info, needs a good sort. No welcome pack, not even a salt cellar or part used roll of cling film, the house is stripped once guests leave.
Over ÂŁ1,000 for 10 for 2 nights plus additional charge - cash, for late check out, to then find there was no follow on booking, felt exploitative.
This house in such an idyllic locaion has so much potential.
