They had tradesman replacing the carpets in the passage in front of our room.On arrival our door room was open with one of the workers shoes in our room and tools on the cupboard.Because of the noise we could not rest (drove down from Auckland) and had to go out to avoid the noise.They have no brush for the toilet.This morning i had no TV channels working.I would like to have half my fees back for this inconvenience.Clinton

Disappointing

Disappointed that the hotel’s hot pools are out of order as this was why we were recommended to stay here. No discount or compensation offered. Very dated and worn out fixtures and fittings. Beautiful building and well positioned for the lake, gardens and town centre.

This is a vintage hotel so some compromises were to be expected. However our second floor room was extremely noisy as in hearing entire conversations in the next room. There are also very bright fluorescent lights all around the second floor balcony which shine over around and under the curtains. Would not stay here again.

Very old colonial style - downstairs reception rooms beautiful but our room (22) needed updatng. Flaking paint, cracked bathroom floor tiles, peeling wallpaper. Sad its been neglected

We enjoyed staying at Prince’s Gate Hotel. The on-site hot springs with three pools in the hotel garden were the best treat. We had a one-bedroom apartment for the two of us, which felt quite spacious, although the kitchen facility was bare minimum. The hotel is within walking distance of downtown Rotorua, with ample dining choices. We also liked the hotel being close to the essential sightseeing places, such as a 10-minute drive to Te Puia (a must-see while in Rotorua). The hotel restaurant, Duke’s Restaurant and Bar, needs to improve their food quality. I ordered the roasted pork loin, but most of the pork came with fat, so I left half of the plate untouched. Overall, the staff were warm and very friendly. Thank you!

Old building that could use some upkeep. The carpet in our room was ripped and unsightly. The bed was comfortable enough, the separation of hot and cold water in the sink is outdated and very inconvenient. The pools were nice and we quite enjoyed them. The breakfast was mediocre and basic.

Enjoyed soaking in the hot spring hot tub

It has been a hotel since 1897, more than 100 years. But has been updated. The hotel hot tub is wonderful and free. The parking. Is plentiful. It is right next to the park and walking distance to eat street.

Nice old pub with period features in the rooms and common areas. Friendly staff at reception and in the restaurant. Only issue is no lift if you are not as mobile as you used to be but staff helped with luggage but staff helped with that. Overall an enjoyable couple of days

So disappointed with the security of guest rooms. The door locks were totally unacceptable. Anyone could unlock the door without a key. Nothing more than a bathroom door lock. We felt nothing could be left in our room while we were away. Manager did not respond to my email regarding my concerns. Service otherwise was good. Nice old hotel.

This elegant historical hotel was a great choice in Rotorua. We especially enjoyed the friendly and helpful staff, the excellent dinner at Duke’s Restaurant, and the wonderful hot pools on site. With such great, private pools, you really don’t have to pay for others. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed walking the nearby beach boardwalk and gardens. Free parking is offered but can be a bit hard to secure during the day. But by evening, there was ample to choose from.
