You can watch the tide ebb and flow revealing the most glorious golden stretch of beach. Glass double doors lead from the decking into the living room, where you can sit back and soak up the scenery, or if you can drag your eyes away you can watch some TV, in the warm glow from the wood burner. The kitchen is well equipped with everything needed to create all your favourite meals, which you can enjoy at the dining table, again with beautiful sea views. Or when the weather is glorious, soak up the sun’s rays out on the decking with a barbecue. On the ground floor you also have a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. Upstairs are a further three bedrooms, all complete with en-suites.
From your doorstep you join the Cleveland Way which runs along the cliff edge linking scenic coastal villages and bays from Filey in the south and up to Saltburn in the north, then continuing into the North York National Park. Just steps away you have a popular pub and hotel which serves hearty food, there is also a second pub and café all within a three-minute walk away. From the top of the village you can follow the footpath down a steep slope towards the bay where you have a cluster of historic houses teetering above the sea. There’s a small café as well as a quaint pub, exploring the winding footpaths between the cottages is like stepping back in time. The beach is beautiful, as well as being both dog and child friendly all year round. For days out you will be spoilt for choice.
Further north along the coast is Staithes and Saltburn, the latter a surfers’ paradise with a Victorian pier and tram, and beyond the enormous beach going to Marske and Redcar. To the south at Sandsend the waves dramatically crash over the sea wall at high tide, Whitby, bursting with history and drawing guests from around the world; the tangle of cobbled streets in the village of Robin Hood’s Bay cling to the cliff edge, with houses spilling right down to the water’s edge. Perhaps take the heritage steam train from Whitby on an adventure across the Esk valley, there are some quaint villages to visit along the way. For those who love the water you can join a local surf school, or row along the river Esk in the village of Ruswarp. For history lovers there are a selection of museums in Whitby as well as the nautical museum in Staithes and the mining museum in Skinningrove. Whitby Abbey and Guisborough Priory are both beautiful ruins, which are picture perfect.

Highfields was an extremely comfortable, spacious beautiful house, we didn’t want for anythin
Highfields was an extremely comfortable, spacious beautiful house, we didn’t want for anything all amenities catered for. The location had fantastic views too. Only a short walk down to the bay or if not too mobile there is a car park. Would certainly return.
Beautiful, spacious, clean property. Gorgeous weekend with my 3 sons, their girlfriends and dogs. Very convenient for walking or driving around. Lovely walk on the beach but very steep to get down so send someone younger or fitter to fetch a car to go back up !!
Lovely warm house. The gardens looked great but too cold in February to make use of the fantastic terrace. Great location, close to a pub, the beach and a regular bus service to Whitby or Saltburn-By-The-Sea. We liked the fact that all bedrooms had en-suite bathrooms. A couple of small problems were resolved quickly by the owner. Gave 4 stars for cleanliness as there was a sock left under one of the beds (not ours) and a throw and cushion were stained and a bit smelly in one of the bedrooms.
