SAVE YOURSELF. Do not rent from this host.
Please save yourself the trouble and do not rent from Emerald. We arrived just before 9pm to this condo to find that it had not been cleaned since the last guests. Dirty sheets, towels...the whole bit. No extras to make the beds ourselves. Immediately we called the host. His phone rang and went to voicemail twice. Then, it was turned off. We sent urgent messages through the VRBO app and no response. We had to find a hotel for our family that night as there were no extra towels or bedding for us to attempt to make a sleep space. He responded the next morning and did not have the condo available for us until almost 4pm the next day. We were left high and dry that day. We are now dealing with only a partial refund from the owner for that first night. Filing a complaint against him with VRBO with hopes that others will not have to deal with such a terrible host. Please heed my advice and book anything else.

We arrived around 10 pm. Property was as described, neat, and clean. Around midnight turned down beds to find black debris resembling coffee grounds or course black pepper between sheets in both beds (2 bedrooms, each with one bed). Fearing an infestation, but too late to find new accommodations, contacted VRBO & slept in living room. We had only one day in San Diego and multiple appointments. We did not have time to pack up, search for lodging, and move. We contacted the host and requested someone inspect the beds, hoping for an explanation that would ease our concerns as we needed to sleep there again before departing the next morning. I had to interrupt my afternoon appointment to meet the man. He appeared to be shocked and could not explain the debris - nearly identical in beds in separate rooms. I requested a discount for the inconvenience and discomfot. He said he would mention my request to the owner. He brought clean sheets and I slept again on the sofa and my daughter in a sleeping bag on the floor. No discount was offered. I have made 3 calls and sent 3 email requests to Vrbo. Vrbo agents tell me that I must deal with the property owner and then close my case. I have 3 closed cases with Vrbo. I requested a discount once verbally and twice using the Vrbo app messaging system. The owner did not respond to my initial request, refused my first written request and did not respond to the subsequent written request.
