Summary: âThis is the room that all the locals book. I couldnât figure out why, so one day I decided to ask a guest. âIâve walked past here a million times, and I just had to see what was behind these doors,â he replied, as if it were obvious.â
Our 20 ft., 100-year-old naval train station doors do seem like have a story to tell. Salvaged and repurposed here in our only street-level loft, they bring in the light and life of downtown San Diego.
What youâll find in Room D: âA welcome drink on us âThe Malin + Goetz products we have at home âChemex and local beans from Dark Horse Coffee Roasters âKitchenette, dining area, and private, fenced-in patio off of Beech Street âA lofted bedroom with Tuft & Needle bed and Parachute linens â$20/night parking available behind the building by request
The Space: Two Quirks to Note: âBecause of the large windows and street-level location, you may experience light and noise at night; we wouldnât recommend this room for light-sleepers âThe lofted bedroom can only accessed via a steep ladder
The Neighborhood: If youâre still deciding where to stay, allow us to advocate for Little Italy. Locals like us know that Little Italy is bar and restaurant central: where to go if you want a well-made tiki drink or a fancy steak dinner in San Diego.
Itâs also centrally located within the city: just a 5min drive from the airport and a 10min drive to Balboa Park, Gaslamp, North Park, Hillcrest, and beaches.
Getting Around: The loft is conveniently located in the heart of San Diegoâs Little Italy neighborhood. The area is extremely walkable (and bikeable) â and youâll be just a few blocks away from the some of the best restaurants in the city & a few blocks away from the gorgeous San Diego bay front.
Other Things to Note: The Dutra does not allow smoking or pets in room and on the patios. (Though Pet Rocks are permitted.) If you choose to break âthe rules,â we charge an extra cleaning fee. One necessary point about our patios: all are private, except for the common lawn on the fourth floor. Itâs the one with tiny tub, you canât miss it.
We welcome you to have (up to 2) friends over to our place until 9pm. We love parties, but for big groups or late nights, we ask that you check with us before you arrive. Our walls are a little thin, so your tap dancing, loud seances, bongos, and even your lively conversation can carry. The same goes for photo or film shoots. Please note that, in both cases, you may be charged an extra location or event fee.
Every stay at The Dutra comes with instant new neighbors. âThe rulesâ are just in place to make sure everyone has the best stay. We canât wait to have you visit!
Interaction with Guests: We live next door, and are available anytime during your stay. Our goal is to make sure you have a wonderful San Diego trip.
Excellent stay at this beautifully modeled loft space! This was located perfectly in Little Italy with tons of restaurants and bars in walking distance. Stayed here during CRSSD festival and the location to Waterfront Park was ideal. Host was very communicative and helpful during my stay. Would absolutely stay here again and recommend to others!
Absolutely beautiful VRBO... It has been on my list to visit and I got it in. The owner was amazing. He was very understanding when I realized I forgot that I had made the reservation and got us in no problem. The location is absolutely amazing. You can walk to everything. People walking by are super friendly and stop and talk to you. We put chairs on the front porch at night and had an awesome time people watching. It is VERY LOUD, as the location is amazing, there is a lot of noise from local businesses. We didn't mind that noise. Apparently, you are not aloud to make any noise yourself after 9PM. Two nights in a row, we were visited by the very nice next door neighbor stating we were too loud. Now, the people talking on the street and music from across the street was WAY LOUDER than us, a couple in their late 40s literally talking and laughing at each other. Two nights the neighbor let us know we had a complaint. The first and second night. We ended up not hanging out in the VRBO because I kept having to tell my husband to stop making me laugh because I didn't want to get in trouble! This place would be 10 stars if I didn't feel like we were constantly being watched and couldn't make any noise, even talking, after 9PM in Little Italy across the street from the most popular speak easy in San Diego.... So, if you are super quiet and go to sleep at 9PM, this is the place to go if you don't mind the outside noise that is very loud! Sorry!
