never got the check in email thst gave instructions on picking up the key at hotel Iris. When I arrived at Starling Place my assigned parking space was occupied. However, When i did get down to hotel Iris the guy had mu key s and everything ready to go and just had to check my ID. I called about the parkong and within minutes we had a new spot.

Very clean and pleasant building in a convenient location. Room was very clean and newly refurbished, though spare. Fine by me! Great burritos and a nice 7-Eleven next door. Only caviat is that check-in is at a hotel a few miles away.

There is no staff, no front desk. Our key stopped working and I was unable to get up to my floor. Luckily someone let me up and my girl was in the room to let me in. Otherwise, I don't know what I would do since there is no one there to help. The walls are very thin and you can hear all the other guest yelling. There are long term guests there and a sign saying that the building will soon be homeless housing. The room itself was nice, bed was uncomfortable, but the room was spacious.

Got to read the fine print when checking in! Having said that, granted it was rather unusual but the Gentleman at the Iris Inn was super polite and made the checking in process easy! And for the price, you can’t beat that! If I ever spend the evening in SD in the future, I definitely will be looking to return to Starling! Thank you for a tremendous stay!

Parking spaces are TINY for a small SUV so bring a bigger one and use two. Odd people & residents smoking weed in hallways and out front at all hours, despite it being a non smoking property? Wish I would have brought mine... Walls are paper thin, but when my tv stopped working I could hear the neighbors shows crystal clear anyway so no matter. Shower glass doors aren’t secure and bang together so don’t let it scare you too bad. Toilet held up w 2x4’s under the bowl was a thoughtful touch, no one wants to leave a lumpy mattress and worn out sheets to fall off the John. Cheap! If you stay you almost get what you pay for. AC worked but is super LOUD so it is inconvenient if you are trying to hear the neighbor’s tv.

Room has WiFi
but the smart tv thinks it’s smarter than the router and the unsecured connection. Kitchenette has fridge, dishes, hot plate - BYO pans, dish soap - BYO sponge. In an emergency you don’t need to go 4 miles to another hotel and report it to the front desk, you just text the cell phone number on the photocopy they give you when you check in at the 4mi away motel.
