Sophisticated and romantic, Sayang d'Amour is a luxurious oasis of calm in thriving Seminyak. The French owners have drawn inspiration from their North African neighbours and thoughtfully decorated the villa with Moroccan elements. From latticework motifs and brightly coloured tiled floors to vibrant feature walls, the villa embodies the spirit of Tales of the Arabian Nights.

At this villa, you can host events for 50 seated or 80 standing guests, so it's ideal for entertaining, while 12 guests can sleep here. Six opulent bedrooms are spread across the villa with the two master bedrooms in their own secluded pavilions. King size beds with fine linens are accompanied with a Venetian glass dresser and chaise longues. The villa has no fewer than seven televisions and DVD players - so there should be no squabbles over the remote!

Peek through the chartreuse curtains to find an enormous statement bathroom with a turquoise feature wall, centred around a lovely freestanding tub. Getting ready here is a treat in itself! Guest bedrooms have a mixture of French king and queen size beds with a delicate netted canopy. Antique design details include a writing desk and a private alfresco shower in an exotic garden - so liberating!

The awe-inspiring living room features jewel bright sofas to unwind on and amazing latticework beams on the ceiling. Stunning patterned tiles on the floors give the villa a distinct Moroccan riad feel. Painted furniture adds a vintage touch, and the villa is filled with fresh foliage. A standout element are the golden wooden screens covered with circular mirrors, guarding three Balinese statues.

Enjoy an Indonesian or Australian feast, prepared by the talented villa chef on the terrace, or a fruit platter by the pool after a refreshing dip in the crystalline waters. The lawn has ample space for wandering, picnic-ing and games, as well as sunbeds for guests to top up their tan.

Just a few minutes' walk down a discreet lane and you'll find yourself on glamorous Seminyak beach. A playground for jet-setters, fashionistas and yogis, Seminyak is full of stylish boutiques where you can shop til you drop and delightfully fancy spas. Indulge in a Balinese massage and spend the day getting pampered.

Surf's up all year round in Bali, and Seminyak beach has a variety of reef breaks for all skill levels. With warm seas and plenty of atmospheric cafes to grab a smoothie afterwards, it's popular with surfers from all over the globe. You can sign up for some lessons at many surf schools around Seminyak.

While it's not the best beach for swimming due to the riptide, take a leisurely walk with the sand between your toes and enjoy some seafood from one of the beach warungs. You can even stroll all the way to Kuta and Canggu if you feel like it!

The centuries-old temple at nearby Petitenget beach is a great way to get acquainted with Bali's rich culture. Pura Petitenget has twelve shrines and an impressive dragon staircase that leads to an expansive courtyard. Every evening, there are enchanting temple ceremonies on the beach and traditional dance displays accompanied by a haunting devotional orchestra.

For art lovers, Hotel Tugu Bali is an interesting museum-hotel hybrid full of priceless Indonesian art and antiques. Here, there's also a fabulous award-winning spa offering traditional Eastern therapies, so it's an ideal place to spend a leisurely afternoon. Shoppers will love rummaging through the treasure trove of boutiques and junk shops in Kerobokan - there are plenty of homeware shops if you're feeling inspired by the villa's artisan style.

Seminyak is a great jumping off spot for day trips around the rest of the island. Rent a car to visit Bedugul in the north, where you can discover volcanic lakes. Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, a Hindu sea temple on the shoreline of Lake Bratan is also in this area. Historically, worshippers gave offerings to the river goddess Dewi Danu to keep the river thriving for irrigation. Take a boat trip out here and enjoy the serene atmosphere.

Just 8km away, Echo Beach is amazing for a sundowner with a fruity cocktail in hand. This beach has atmospheric beach clubs with bean bags and famous beach barbecues.
