Heydt Homestead
A five-minute drive from Seneca Rocks and a perfect get away for your climbing, hiking, fishing, caving, and skiing trips. This quirky, homey, recently renovated farm house is at the epicenter of Canaan Valley, Spruce Knob, North Mountain trail, and the Dolly Sods. A fantastic location for lovers of the outdoors or those in need of a rest. Enjoy the Allegheny Mountain views of the Monongahela National Forest, the neighbors horses, and be lucky enough to be lulled to sleep by the whippoorwill!
Great property located with in 30 min of so many great hiking locations. Peaceful, quiet area at night to rest and relax after your adventures. I would definitely stay again and would suggest you give it a try!!!!!
It was a little hard to find a property going by our GPS. Everything was very nice and clean. When will we arrived the air conditioners was on and it was very comfortable inside and very much appreciated. The only complaint that we had was the picture in the upstairs bathroom. Didn't feel that it was very child friendly or even an adult. Other than that we would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Thank you for the wonderful stay. Dottie Johnson
It was a very nice place. A wonderful surprise is that the original house was my Aunt Ellen house which made it that more special. Beautiful sights in Seneca Rocks and Smoke Hole Caverns is awesome.
The house is lovely! It's in a perfect location to visit everything in the area. We were close to Seneca Rocks and all the waterfalls in the area. We had a wonderful stay! Thank you so much!
It was a great stay! The hosts were super easy to contact and very friendly when answering questions. The property was exactly what we needed. A good central location, clean and accessible too. All in all a good trip. Little disappointed everythingâs wasnât quite open yet, but thatâs okay, trip still did its job.
Maple Days WV and VA was going on and this was located in the center of both. Also nearby Distillery and Cider tasting rooms participated. There is no TV or cell if the WiFi is down, so be aware if you need TV which we didn't need. Open first floor made the house very roomy. Owners were very helpful.
My friends and I were going to a wedding in Petersburg so we decided to make a long weekend trip out of it and stayed in Seneca Rocks. This house was just perfect! Itâs quiet, cozy, and stocked with all the necessities. Honestly, we didnât need anything other than our own personal items and food. The hosts have thought of everything! The beds are comfortable and the shower is great. The ground level is more spacious than it appears in the photos. That was a nice discovery. The house is centrally located to many local attractions: Seneca Rocks, Smoke Hole Caverns, and Spruce Knob. Thereâs a local grocery store and restaurant only a 7 min drive away. We were even able to take a drive into Davis to go to Blackwater Falls State Park. And since the wedding was in Petersburg, we spent an evening there for dinner. It was all made even more perfect with the responsive contact with the hosts. We ran into a little issue at the house (totally our fault) and they responded so quickly and were so very helpful. If I could give more than 5 stars on this review, I would!
This property is clean and just what we needed for our family of 5, the only thing I would change is the sliding door to the upstairs bathroom be a little bigger to fully cover the doorway. But other than that itâs great.
Wonderful location close to the hikes and sight seeing spots we had on our bucket list. The house was very comfy and had everything we needed for a memorable weekend. And for an added bonus there is a great book selection here!
We had an amazing time staying at this property. Everything was very clean and tidy. We got to do lots of hiking around the area as well as visiting different caverns. Communication was also great between us and the host. This was a great vacation and we had such a wonderful time here!
Excellent location for hiking, climbing, sight seeing, walking, caving... The home has all the comforts you need. Forget your phone, email, TV... unplug and relax.
This home was perfect for what our family was looking for - a clean, comfortable base from which to explore the local area. Everything was as described in the listing and by previous reviewers. Garrett was quick to respond to questions we had. We would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a getaway in the West Virginia mountains.
We loved our stay here! The property was super clean and had lots of extra little touches that made it feel like home. Communication with the host was amazing. They gave us a few great recommendations to explore in the area- which we checked out and loved.
Well worth it! I've been traveling to these mountains for most of my life. The location is less than an hour from some of the most desirable attractions in the West Virginia Mountains. I'm on track to complete the WV Waterfall Trail. The Holy Grail was the Seneca Creek Falls. We started at Spruce Knob and hiked down to the falls and back. The cabin had everything we needed. A comfortable and quiet location with every amenity.
We stayed at the Heydt Homestead over Memorial Day weekend as a base point for some adventures in the area. We stayed with my dad, father in law, and 3 year old son. This was the perfect spot with plenty of quiet around to relax and enjoy each other's company. Super close to Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob.
My friend and I had an amazing time in West Virginia. We wanted to visit before shipping out for basic training, and had the time and views of our life. More importantly, the Heydt Homestead was a very relaxing and nice place to return to. Itâs in a great location relative to things to do and places to see, while still being secluded enough that neighbors donât keep you up at night. The home was amazing, and we are beyond grateful we had the pleasure to stay here. Thanks! - Elijah & Brandon
My family and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Heydt Homestead in Seneca Rocks. Garrett and Isabelle's house was just as advertised, and provided more than my family and I needed as we were there for some skiing and Canaan Valley exploration. You could tell the work they put into renovating this old farm house. With three upstairs bedrooms, it easily fit our family of four, while providing the space downstairs for play and eating.
Highly recommend!!! We absolutely loved it! Owners are extremely responsive and prompt! Place was clean, well appointed, and beautifully decorated. Photos donât do it justice- So quaint, yet roomy and bright. We would love to return!
