The hotel is very nice for the area. The only thing is that the balcony in the room is very dirty and not well maintained. And we have to pay for basic bathroom amenities such as tooth brush and tooth paste. It is nice that they are trying to be sustainable, but it would be better if they can still offer the basic amenities on request and not at a price.

Good hotel, bad timing on our part
The hotel is undergoing a major refurb and as a result many things/services are not available. There was, however, no mention of this anywhere on their website.
Other than that, it was a lovely stay, the staff tried their best to be helpful, the bathroom was pretty big and the sleep comfortable.
My 4 year old daughter and I spent a 3 day weekend here for a staycation getaway. We upgraded to a club room for access to the executive club for breakfast and happy hour. The Market Place is better for breakfast but the club offered plenty to fill us up for dinner. The grounds are very nice, as is the pool, and children's play areas. They rent several types of bicycles including single, tandem, "mommy and me" and for small children. The staff are extremely helpful. Due to a mix up with our room we were upgraded to a children's room for one night and my daughter chose a Frozen-inspired room, which she loved. The balconies with comfy swing chairs are a plus -those with dogs will stay on lower floors with an enclosed patio. Just about all you hear when you open the balcony doors is bird song. The only downside is getting to the hotel without a car. We took an Uber from central Shanghai but in order to return, the hotel would have to either call a Shanghai taxi to the hotel incurring a high fee and at least a 90 minute wait, or the hotel could call a local taxi to come from the nearby town to take us to the island bus station where we would catch a bus to a metro station, and then... Still with advanced planning, it is worth the trip.
Hyatt Regency Chongming provides a restful respite from city life. My family enjoyed the ambience though walking from the lobby/restaurants to the hotel rooms can be a challenge to the elderly. Fortunately for us, we brought along a wheelchair. The staff (especailly Joney at the reception and the Market Cafe waiter who speaks Cantonese and English) are polite and attentive. As the name tags of staff members are small, it is very difficult to read their names. To enjoy Chongming more fully, transportation is crucial. One thing to note, it is difficult to find opened restaurants between 2pm and 6pm in the vicinity. On the whole, it was a good stay.
