The Happy Bear cabin was the perfect stay! It was cozy, clean, strong wifi, and all well stocked (the kitchen was surprisingly well stocked compared to other places we have stayed). The heaters kept it cozy and wood burning stove made it so that we didnt even need the heaters. Don't hesitate to book, we will definitely be back!
The cabin was clean and comfortable. I was especially happy to find coffee in the cupboard. My grandson (age 22) and I used the cabin as a base for a video that he is working on. We shot footage at Huntington Lake, China Peak, and Shaver Lake. We didn't take advantage of the movies and games at the cabin, as in the evenings my grandson edited his video files, and I mostly read. I never quite figured out the Vizio remote control for the TV, but that didn't matter, as I mainly read on my KIndle. We were impressed with the speed of the WiFi. The electric baseboard heaters took a few hours to get the interior up to "room temperature," but then we were quite comfortable. We did not use the cast iron wood-burning heater at all. One note: The final turn of the directions on Google Maps is WRONG. The driveway for the cabin is NOT on Road 23--it is on Road 24. I am trying to figure out how to get Google to fix this. I added a photo of the road sign for Road 24. This is where you turn left to get to the cabin. The cabin is visible from Road 23, but the access is from Road 24. Saddleback Road dead-ends past Road 24, so if you miss it, turn around and then take the first paved road (Road 24) on your right. There is no sign for Road 24 on that side of the road--the sign is on the opposite side of the road. By the way, I would not recommend going there for the first time after dark because it gets really dark in the mountains, and there is no light at the intersection.
Our stay at Happy Bear cabin in the beginning of November 2025 was a great. The weather was perfect during the day however once evening came around it was very cold. We were not prepared with extra blankets which would have been nice to have during the night because it got chilly. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.
cabin was very nice, well stocked kitchen, the only thing that would have made it nicer was to have a 13gal kitchen trash can in the kitchen instead of a small trash can and the wi fi password was the wrong one in the info book and bear proof the 2 outside trash cans,1 nite a bear came and made a big mess with the trash, the next 2 nights i had to scare it away.
The cabin is clean and close to town and the lake. Lots of windows to enjoy the experience of being in the forest The property manager is responsive and easy to communicate with...I'd love to return in the! winter and enjoy the wood burning stove
