The hotel is well-situated on the middle of Smith College. It’s about a 15mn walk into Northampton. The hotel is clean, but looks like it was flipped, rather than having a full renovation. The bathroom is basic, and the water in the shower never gets hot, lukewarm at best. The sink gets hot, but not the shower…seems like a way to save money. The bed is comfortable, and the split-unit works fine. Breakfast is good and the lounge area is pleasant, as are the outdoor areas that provide seating. The staff are delightful and very attentive. The hotel is a safe and solid place to stay.

The AC/Heater going on and off during the night sounded like a plane taking off. Also The LED from what I believe was the fire detector would flash on/off every few minutes. It all made for a very sleepless night.

The room was cold and drafty - the door needs weather-stripping. The heater blows cold as well as hot with the heat on. The photos of the lounge show a lovely fire but we didn't know that the staff will only light a fire in the mornings (safety issue with embers not being cold by the time staff leaves for the evening at 8). Fair enough although misleading - everyone sitting in the lounge was disappointed not to have a fire in the afternoon. We were told at 4 we could not have a fire. It was below zero outside windchill and the room was chilly - could the staff instead have brought in a space heater or two? Not the visit we had hoped.

Each visit, I've found the rooms, bed and bath clean and comfortable. The breakfast options are very thoughtful and help me start the day well. The staff at check in and check out are kind and attentive. It is nice to enjoy time by a fireplace, and the occasional puzzle at a table is a fun touch.

Room was spotless and comfortable.Reception desk personnel explained hotel policy and procedure for re-entering the hotel after a certain time. The lounge area was comfortable for sitting and enjoying the Continental breakfast. Stayed only the one night but the Ellery would be our choice for any future stays.
