Unfortunetly we opened the door to a musty moldy wet smell with soft floors And extremely unclean furniture. The owner was very responsive right away I messaged him and he responded with an offer of a much more cleaner home down the road we could use for the night. He also offered a full refund however it has not been received as of this review. Looking back on the reviews it seems this used to be a great place. This is a very unique cabin however I wouldn't recommend it with children. Once cleaned and properly fixed structure wise I would recommend.
Very unique and charming house, however, it is bare bones and could do with some TLC. Areas of the house were very dark, and not all the lights seemed to work properly. The grounds were overgrown, so we could not use the picnic table or fire pit. There was poison ivy growing next to the steps to the house, and the porches were full of dead leaves. I also would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues or small children, as there were steps into and out of almost every room of the house. The second night some kind of animal was on the roof for over an hour and caused quite a lot of noise, and the day we checked out we heard a mouse in the kitchen cupboards. Both of these were reported to the host with no response. Overall it was a nice house that could be lovely with some additional touches.
There were lots of bugs inside the house. Lots of ants and centipedes it kind of freaked the kids out. The power went out in the middle of the night our second night and did not come back on before we left and we could not communicate with the host until time to leave. They offered no refund or anything and just apologized for the storm.
The place definitely has character and is quirky and kitschy. I really liked its unique layout. I did not like the bugs. We killed more than a few big spiders, like larger than a quarter, several millipedes, and countless ants in the kitchen and living room with the moose head. Weâd be sitting on the couch and then feel something crawling on our armâŠants! The musty smell is a bit overwhelming when you first walk in, like an old damp basement. If anyone in my group were immunocompromised, I would not have stayed. The floors are very uneven with lots of stairs and poor lighting. Do not rent this place if you have mobility concerns. There are a couple of soft spots in the flooring that felt like they were ready to buckle. Not to mention the floors being filthy and turning the bottoms of our feet totally black. Apparently there were guests that had checked out the morning before we checked in, but the cleaning between guests did not seem very thorough. The garbage from the previous guest was left under the carport instead of the garbage bin. We found a marshmallow stuck in one of the stove burners and the utensils were not completely clean. Lots of cobwebs and dust in the vents and on the ceiling fans. Strangely no curtainsâŠ
Very cool house with unique designs! The road right before the house was a little washed out so our small car was a little tricky but a truck or SUV would be fine!
We enjoyed the space available inside for my family of 5. Older home but clean, outside space overgrown and not usable but the location was great for going to Six Flags and the Arch. Was close to many attractions.
This place was hard to find. Upon arrival we notice the grass was so tall that the picnic table area was unusable. Inside was spot cleaned but could use a deep cleaning. Vents and fans were covered in dust, cobwebs in corners, tv didn't work. There is or has been recently a leak in the roof.
A little hidden back off the trail but the place was very spacious and had everything we needed. Only down to the weekend was that the yard area was not cut so we didn't feel comfortable doing a fire or adventure through the area. All and all we truly enjoyed this quirky little place
Really fun place. Lots of room to entertain, lovely views and as everyone says, quirky. We are low maintenance, and itâs a low maintenance type of place. If you just want to have a fun place to stay that isnât just some boring antiseptic housing development, youâll like it.Very close to Castlewood Park, where I was hoping to get some hikes and running, sadly, it was flooded out, but itâs a great park Iâve run at before. We come to STL a lot and we will return.
