Avis pour Island Country Retreat with Expansive Ocean Views ~ Private Pool
Great house for our family. We had 2 kids (9 and 13) and the beds work out great for their sleeping arrangements. Pool was perfect for swimming and hanging out at after the beach. Also really like the kitchen which was well stocked. There was a propane grill outside we used most nights for dinner. The view from back patio area was great for breakfast and enjoyed it. Would visit again!
We had a great stay. The host met us at the rental car company and we followed her to the property, which was very helpful because it would have been hard to find on our own. When navigating on our own, the address listed did not show up on the GPS, so navigate to the gas station and pay attention how to navigate from there! The property is very private and has a great view! The host checked in via text a few times when the island was having issues with power, which was very thoughtful of her. Would stay here again.
Helen's villa is a great place if you are looking for seclusion and a fantastic view! Helen met us at the airport and had us follow her to the house, which was very helpful. The house is very well stocked if you want to cook there with pretty much everything you need. The view on the terrace is fantastic! We ate every meal there. The private pool was great for the kids and having the chance to see all kinds of wildlife roam around the area was fun too. We would love to stay here again!
It was wonderful. Helen is an above and beyond host. Was available anytime we needed her. The house is truly amazing, wonderful view, cleanband very open
So charming and colonial! It was like staying at a friend's beloved home. Helen met us at the car rental and escorted is to her place on the mountain. You will need a 4 wheel or small SUV to get here but, OMG, once you do, it's heaven. Views for days. We brought our daughter and her family and Were going to rent a porta crib but we got here and Helen had purchased one for our stay. Absolutely will stay here again next time we come. I feel very at home in this house because I grew up in the Caribbean. She has beautiful art work and a lot of personal touch. Great Internet! Power went out a few times but the generator kicked right in! Beds are super comfy. Water pressure is spotty but, this is the islands and didn't bother us at all. Very well stocked pantry, spices galore and every dish and cooking vessel known to man! You won't regret staying here!! We actually stayed 2 weeks. Our in-laws rented it the 2nd week when our kids went home!
Helen was an amazing host! We fell in love with her property instantly. She met us at the airport and we followed her to the gem in the mountains. All communication was perfect and she made everything easy. The house was gorgeous and we felt right at home. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment as well as plenty of spices and utensils. Her dishes are fabulous and we enjoyed setting the table nicely when we did cook. All bathrooms were well stocked with almost any little need. Shower toiletries, hair dryers and straighteners. This was by far our best experience with this site. I highly recommend this place and Helen!
We were very excited, but also a bit trepidatious, about our booking in St. Thomas as we had never been before. However, prior reviews on this property were extremely helpful (we thoroughly agree that renting a Jeep is ideal for this property), and Helen was truly an excellent Host! Helen provided prompt answers to any questions we had, both before and during our stay, and all our needs were met and exceeded throughout. She met us at the car rental place and led us up to the property, which was incredibly helpful as I don't think we would have found it otherwise. She even let us follow her to the grocery store, which was right up the road. The property was beautiful, spacious, and clean. It was a bit careworn, but that only added to its charm from my and the kid's viewpoint... we got the feeling that we were very much a part of the regular living of the island; we were away from the condo/cruise ship scene, and it was peaceful, secluded, and private. There were fruit trees and a cute little pool, and everything you would want to get to is only a 15-25 minute drive away. (The island driving on the left-hand side of the road and the continual switchbacks do take some getting used to). But overall, the house was well appointed with all the basics you could think of needing... paper towels, TP, spices, cleaning gear, any and all cooking needs and utensils. It was a truly wonderful vacation, and this home and this host really were a huge part of why it as wonderful as it was!
This house was so much more than it appeared in the listing. The views were breathtaking. The kitchen was fully stocked with pans, utensils, even spices. It was convenient to have a private pool. I definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a peaceful getaway. Helen was so helpful during our stay, communication was on point
Helenâs property is wonderful, beautiful, and my wife and I really enjoyed our stay here for our honeymoon! We wanted a place where we could stay at the house a day or two and be able to relax and enjoy ourselves! The outdoor patio, pool, and stocked kitchen (minus food of course) enabled us to do this. Helen was great in meeting us after we picked up our rental car and showing us where the house is, giving us a tour, and showing us where everything is that we would need. One night, the house lost power (due to the an issue with the local power provider) and her and her son came and turned on the generator so we would have power, and we really appreciated that. Our only complaint was we experienced a bug problem. Overall, the property was very clean. Floors, bathrooms, sheets and everything was perfect. But after a few days we started finding tiny roaches. The house was not overrun, but we were killing multiple everyday. We contacted Helen, and she was not able to spray the property due to us staying there, which I understand. I didnât want all of our belongings affected. I bought spray myself and sprayed certain areas which greatly helped, but we still found one here or there. Luckily never in the master bedroom. I hope that this issue will be addressed for future renters.
The villa is full of interesting artwork and comfortable furniture. The location is an easy drive to many beaches. We rented a small sedan and had no problem getting around. The kitchen is well stocked which made it easy to cook in addition to going to several restaurants.
The property is gorgeous. The gardens are to die for. It is a paradise of orchids, aloe, fruit trees, and I could go on and on. The views spectacular. The kitchen well equipped. The decor inside the house was reminiscent of days gone by with collections from far away places. Helen was a perfect host. We will be back.
Lovely, warm and spacious home, a loved and cared for garden and outdoor space and comfortable furnishings including 2 patios and a great grill! It was a beautiful setting for my familyâs dreamy retreat with each other and we especially appreciated a very gracious and responsive host! Our Jeep was perfect - this home is beautifully appointed with a lovely view from the northside of inner and outer brass! But be very prepared for a tricky dirt road to access the property! Excellent for folx familiar with the island!
The perfect place for us to completely relax in a quiet almost secluded comfortable and quant mountainside house. The tropical setting created the the most tranquil atmosphere weâve experienced in a very long time. Our host met us at the airport to lead us in our first experience of driving on the left side if of the serpentine roads of St. Thomas.
Helen was very communicative and was helpful in finding the location. The house is exactly as pictured with large windows and amazing views. The pool and outside area was beautiful. There was a good amount of supplies in the house for cooking as well as beach time!
The owner Helen is the best. She met us (my future wife and I) at the airport to guide us to the hidden villa. Located on the quiet north end of the island. The villa is located on the end of an unpaved road The furnished covered veranda facing east overlooks Hull Bay. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals including a cabinet full of spices, vinegars and oils. The rest of the interior is well appointed though some of the furniture seem a bit worn. The entire house was clean. It was evident the house is well maintained. The pool area had lots of chairs and recliners. The pool was a good size and clean, its plaster could use a little bit love but it wasn't an issue for me. There was a fire pit behind the pool but you need to supply your own wood to use it. The house came with beach chairs, a cooler and more towels then you could ever use. There is a generator for power outages as well. In summary, Helen was an amazing host, the property is private, well maintained and well stocked. There is a grocery store across from the exit of the house's long dirt road which was convenient thou expensive. I would highly recommend this property. Helen created a hidden gem.
Weâve visited St Thomas about 20 times and this was definitely one of the best overall value places weâve ever stayed in. We will definitely be back. Helen is very helpful and responsive. The house is absolutely beautiful. Itâs maintained and kept well. The view, garden and pool are great. There are many thoughtful amenities and fun knick knacks. A note to consider, particularly if youâre not familiar with STT- the house is located in the Northside, which is lush and residential. If youâre planning to visit restaurants in Red Hook or Frenchtown for dinner or take the late ferry back from St John, you will be driving back on the narrow mountain road with some patches in the dark. We didnât mind and drove a regular car (not a jeep/4WD) everywhere, including the monster trek to nearby Neltjeberg beach, but if youâre not a fan of driving on the left then this may be helpful to keep in mind. Also there is a brand new, slightly pricey but very well-stocked Moeâs market right across the street, which was super convenient. Enjoy!
Check in was a breeze as property manager met us at the airport and we followed him to the house. You MUST have a car to stay at this house, preferably 4WD with high clearance.
Very large, spacious rooms, well-equipped kitchen, plenty of towels including beach/pool towels.
Having two outdoor patio areas, both shaded with dining tables was very nice. Wonderful view out over Hull Bay from back patio. Beautiful gardens and flowers. Very large pool with lots of lounge chairs.
The home is older and could use some general maintenance and a thorough cleaning - and is a 10-15 minute drive to anything except the convenience store at the top of the driveway.
Overall, a very pleasant stay, thank you Helen for sharing your family home!
We had an absolutely marvelous stay at this property. Very spacious, clean, with an incredible view of Hull Bay. We really enjoyed the pool and both patios. Can not recommend this place enough, Helen was an incredible host who treated us like old friends. Would strongly recommend renting a 4WD, the road to the property gets pretty bumpy.
Surrounded by palms and greenery with clean pool and house stocked with all the towels and kitchen implements you need. Rent a jeep for the steep and rocky path to the house but enjoy the privacy.
