Fisherman's cottage with enclosed courtyard

Located in Årsdale, this fisherman’s cottage from the 1770s features a completely enclosed courtyard, an apricot tree, almond and mulberry trees, and red “grandmother’s” geraniums beneath the old barn windows. Almost everything in the house is an heirloom or a flea market find from the “King of Flea Markets” in Nexø.



The living room floor still has some of the original wide floorboards, and the windowpanes are hand-blown glass that creates a beautiful play of light. The carrom-set is out on the table in the living room, and the board games are stored in the drawer of the old chest of drawers from a family farm on Mors. From the living room, you can follow the sun from the moment it rises over the sea until it hangs high in the midday heat.



The courtyard walls are ochre yellow, the windows are Bornholm red, and the woodwork is dark green and white, brightened by pink Queen Elizabeth roses and “Arabian Night” dahlias. In the summer, swifts fly in zigzags under the eaves, and on rainy days, water drips quietly down the windows—the house has no gutters.



Within 500 meters lies the harbor with a swimming area, a French-inspired bistro, and Høkeren, a small grocery store run by local volunteers. At Kåsen, behind the harbor, you can swim off the cliffs. From the house, there’s direct access to the rescue trail around the island, and it’s easy to bike to Svaneke. Nexø is just a few kilometers away, with its pottery and the Isfabrikken ice cream factory.
