Unit 10 is the largest of the luxury villas at Villa Catalina on this hillside development, where the steepness of the terrain offers stunning, unobstructed views.

The Space:
Villa Catalina 10 in Potrero is a 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath, split-level villa on a gorgeous green hill overlooking Costa Rica’s Playa Prieta.
Unit 10 is the largest of the luxury villas at Villa Catalina on this hillside development, where the steepness of the terrain offers stunning, unobstructed views.

Big, wrap-around terraces furnished with dining tables, lounge chairs, a swinging chair and a barbecue offer panoramic, 180-degree views of hills, ocean and sky.

And we haven’t even talked about the interior yet! Vaulted ceilings, sumptuous furnishings, elegant art, air conditioning and ceiling fans make this a visually stunning and eminently comfortable space.

Three bedrooms downstairs feature a king bed, queen bed and bunk bed. All have televisions and private bathrooms. The gleaming wooden bedroom furniture is beautiful, and so are the window views.

The living room on the upper floor features a sectional sofa, flatscreen TV and big ocean-facing windows.

The kitchen has spacious granite counters and stainless-steel appliances, and a window offers its own ocean view. A bar seats four and an oval glass dining table seats six, offering plenty of room for entertaining. There’s also a laundry room.

Villa Catalina 10, Potrero: Living Good in the Neighborhood

Villa Catalina is a short drive uphill from the village of Playa Potrero to the south, and the popular expat town of Surfside beyond that. Between these two, you can find grocery stores, restaurants, bars, tour agencies and other conveniences.

A bit farther afield, it’s not far to the vibrant and fun town of Playas del Coco to the north, or Flamingo and Tamarindo to the south. Every town mentioned here is known for a fabulous beach, and there are more beaches in the secluded stretches between them.

Anything you want to do in Costa Rica — go ziplining, catch a tuna, scuba dive with sharks, ride a horse in the mountains, soak in hot springs at the base of a volcano, or you name it — is all within easy reach of this location.

We welcome your furry friends at our property! Before you book, each pet must be verified and approved based on breed and size (max 35 lbs.), accompanied by a recent photo. A refundable pet fee of $200 per stay, along with an additional cleaning fee of $50 + 13% per pet, is required to ensure our home remains pristine for all guests. We allow up to two pets per reservation. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times in public areas within the property grounds. Certain properties and complexes may have specific rules and registration requirements. Pets need to be verified at least 24 hours prior to check-in. If guests arrive at check-in with unverified pets, access to the property will be denied.

The Neighborhood:
Offering easy access to three beaches (Potrero, Penca and Prieta), this town combines upscale lodging options with the charm of a traditional Costa Rican town (think central plaza with church, school and soccer field).
There are plenty of restaurants, shops and other conveniences, and the downtown area has two mini supers (convenience stores), as well as a commercial plaza with a coffee shop, a hairdresser and other businesses.
Some of the liveliest nightlife in the region can be found at Las Brisas Bar, right on the beach, though it’s normally hopping only on Wednesdays (Ladies’ Night).
Potrero has several nice housing developments with “Villagio” in the name, popular among Italians and other expats. You can find Italian gelato shops, Costa Rican sodas (small, affordable restaurants) and hotels in a range of prices (Pitaya Lodge, Bahía La Esmeralda, Hotel Isolina, Bahía del Sol).
Just to the south of Potrero lie all the attractions of Surfside, and to the north is a beautiful, hilly drive along the ocean, ending at the Mediterranean-style village of Las Catalinas. Potrero is within easy striking distance of several beaches, and it’s a great base to explore the entire region — for a sampler of both the high-end and the humble.

Getting Around:
Our agents will be happy to assist you with renting a car, giving you the freedom to explore the area where you want, when you want. For short drives to nearby towns or beaches, golf carts are another popular mode of transportation. You can also rent a bicycle to ride around in town or beyond.

We can arrange transfers to and from the airport. Rental cars can also be delivered to your property at no additional cost, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenery as our private van drives you here from the airport.

Taxis are available but can be a bit hard to find. Many locals use buses to get around, though there are a limited number of routes and times of day when you can catch them. Private shuttles can be a great option for traveling to nearby destinations, and many tour companies offer transportation to and from the tour. Our information brochure will provide you with useful information on local transportation options and points of interest, as well as contact information for taxis and shuttles.

Special Places of Costa Rica is committed to protecting our properties and complying with short-term rental regulations, which is why all guests are required to complete an independent verification with our trusted partner, TRUVI, before check-in. You will be contacted via email, text, or app notification with instructions to complete this process. As part of the verification, you will need to choose between paying a refundable security deposit (which includes a non-refundable 2% processing fee) or purchasing a non-refundable damage waiver, which protects you in case of accidental damage during your stay. Amazing
 this town home was absolutely perfect. The gated neighborhood was fabulous and infinity pool was beautiful! View from room and pool was gorgeous. Loved this area, great little groceriy stores near by, restaurant in Potrero were fabulous. Only downfall we had to purchase chairs for the beach which we left behind but actual beach chairs would have been great to have. Otherwise perfect place to stay!!!!

Great vacation stay

The house was awesome and right up the street from several beautiful beaches. The pool is a great place to watch the sunset. The house had everything you could think of to use. Great beach towels - just wish there were a few beach chairs. The kitchen had anything you could think of and all in great shape. Wish we could have used the better grill as the one we used had a lot of flair ups.

Beautiful Sunsets

We just stayed at this condo with the beautiful views. It’s a private and quiet complex of about 20 units, this was an end unit in a cluster of 3. The views are spectacular but it gets VERY hot in the afternoon on the terraces and in the unit, you have to use AC by afternoon. But as it faces West the sunsets are gorgeous! The unit is very large and well stocked. It was once very nicely done but is in need of maintenance, doors and dishwasher didn’t work, missing screens, painting needing done, major scale build up in showers etc. We also had no internet for the first 4 days of a 7 day stay. The property management company Special Places did arrange to get the internet back on, finally. The pool at the complex, above the unit with its infinity edge was also beautiful. The road into Playa Potrero is also very poor, you have to drive through two creeks and a lot of pot holes. Fun
..but not easy or comfortable to get in or out of. There are enough restaurants and stores in the area, Playa Potrero and Playa Flamingo though to not need to do this road too much. Overall a good but not great stay

Vue absolument imprenable, endroit trÚs calme et propre. Piscine magnifique et bien entretenue. Toutefois, le mobilier est desuet (divan déchiré, literie viellot, lave vaisselle brisé) et les placards ouverts mériteraient vraiment un grand ménage.

Perfect Pre-winter getaway

Great spot for a relaxing November getaway. We love CR and this is a superb location and property to enjoy the local area, ocean, cycling, hiking, great people and restaurants. You can’t beat the views from here either.

Property management was awful

We were staying south in Diminical and left that property early trying to arrive by 5pm on check in day. Not being from this area we didn't realize that it was a holiday weeekend and that traffic was atrocious. I arrived at the wrong Special Places of Costa Rica as there were no addresses on the emails that I didn't recieve until I got internet at the De CoCo office. Kevin was very kind and informed us that we needed to go to the Potrero office. He even called the Potrero office to let them know of the mix up. Unfortunately, the contact person (Juan's manager) wasn't available and apparently had zero intention of checking us in even though we had already paid the entire balance. We arrived in {otrero at 10:30pm and called every phone number available to us while outside the SPoCR office. Even though the contract said we could check in as late as 11pm for an additional charge... We had to find other accomodations for the night. Thank goodness Margaritaville had one room available for emergencies and took pity on us. Other than not being granted a refund for the first night... the actual property was GREAT! Magnificent views and lovely, spacious, modern home. We loved the home. Unfortunately, check out instructions came late the evening before checkout and even though I emailed back with questions regarding garbage placement (no dumpster evident) and where to leave the keys... I didn't get a response until I was already out of the area. I dropped the keys back at the SPOCR office and placed the garbage neatly by front door. I apologize that the cleaning person had to deal with it since I wasn't aware of where to place it. Be warned... Home is FANTASTIC, management company was NOT.

Property was perfect for our trip. Great views from this home. Close walk to playa Penca. Pool for the days when you want to stay close to the house. The management company was super responsive when our coffee maker broke, they had a new one for us by morning. Truly as advertised.
