Friendly helpful staff,but that was the best part: the hotel has a drab exterior with extremely dirty windows within a run down locale opposite a disused/derelict building. The inside was functional but uniformly tired and dated. Our room was clean enough but the bedding was stained, the sheets and towels were old and thin. A simple warm air blowing heater kept us comfortably warm (no aircon but not needed in late October). The water went cold after one shower but was hot again by the morning. I reported weak wifi and was given an in-room wired hub which worked; except that on both evenings the hotel’s internet connection dropped out repeatedly. We made do for a couple of nights but wouldn't consider returning.

Cozy and adequate hotel

We arrived at Hotel Masyu with the counter staff saying they did not have our booking so it got me a little worried. Thankfully they accepted my physical Expedia booking confirmation slip I printed before my trip. I wouldn't say Hotel Masyu is old, but it is a little dated. Everything else was still up to my standard - level of cleanliness, hospitality service standard, food quality (I had their breakfast). Room size was a little small for me, but it was definitely sufficient for 2 pax with 2 luggages. You would need to reconfigure the furniture arrangement slightly to lay your luggages. There's no lift in Hotel Masyu, so travellers with mobility challenges need to take note. Their staff did help us to bring our luggages up to our room when we first arrived so that was really helpful.

Basic but nice, spacious, staffed by cool people

Despite the language barrier, the driver was always ready to help shuttle between the rail station and the hotel. The general manager (owner?) is a jack of all trades, a very serious man who speaks English haltingly but who showed great care toward our well-being, logistics, breakfast (we were granted a private dining room and were served Japanese fare, not my first option but very nice anyway). Thank you for all the help.

Hotel Masyu was a good value hotel for our young family and it had everything we needed. The private bathroom was a bonus. We had a Japanese style room and would recommend it to anyone.

Two nights visiting Akan-Mashu national park

This is an old hotel and unfortunately it shows. Futons are thin and really old so the bed was really hard even though we had five of them piled up. Ventilation doesn't probably work correctly or it is unsufficient - we had to keep our window open and onsen roof was wet and molded. The hotel is clean and staff friendly. There is not many restaurant options in the area (many restaurants were closed). Good parking facilities.

ホテルの価格は安くてとても良かった。部屋も広めで良い。 しかし！大浴場は薄暗く、古いかんじがして怖い(心霊的な意味で)。風呂に行くまでの廊下も真っ暗なので余計に怖い。ひとりで風呂に入ったので心細かった。 部屋のユニットバスは、生乾きの臭いがした。
