Check-in was fine, though it was cold waiting. It was 12 celsius and they had the air conditioning on. Our room, however, was extremely hot. We couldn't turn the heat down and had to open our windows to cool the room down. We were there for two nights and breakfast was terrible both mornings. We went down halfway through breakfast hours and food was scarce. Breakfast staff was barely in the room, so we couldn't even request top ups. This stay was disappointing.

The Courthouse is my go to hotel when travelling to Thunder Bay. It has a charm that most other hotels simply cannot duplicate. It is walking distance to most restaurants which offers guests different culinary choices.

The hotel is a converted court house. It's quite lovely. The interior is bright, blue and white, with oak doors. It's quiet. Continental breakfast was minimal but adequate. No OJ but did have some bottled fruit drinks that were very difficult to open.

Never perfect

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. I've stayed here many times, but every time something has been off. This time it was fairly minor, the exercise room was missing both the 20lb and 25lb dumbells. Also, the first day the hot water was cold. Last time I visited over the holidays, we were in a corner room during the winter, and the heating was poor. There was a space heater in the room running full blast but the room was still chilly, struggling to get up to 69F. Also I noticed that time the food rating was a "B", which was not surprising given I saw the man doing the breakfast service repeatedly touching his hair with gloves on. I lost my appetite, and felt sick later. It's really a shame, because this hotel is absolutely beautiful. It's an amazing view, and the rooms are big and nice. I hope they work out the kinks, because this should be the nicest hotel in Thunder Bay.

The courts house hotel is a wonderful place to stay . Rooms and hotel very clean. Bed was comfortable. Beautiful view if you get to face Lake Superior . Complimentary breakfast was good . Will definitely stay again

I love what they've done to this property - they've managed to maintain the historic charm of the old courthouse while creating a comfortable and inviting boutique hotel experience. The small things, like the toiletries and soft robe, added to the charm. The front desk staff are wonderful. Would stay again!

We got the last room in Thunder Bay available that night. It was well appointed. Room 8005 is located directly below the restaurant area, which is open 24 hours a day. Late and delayed flights / early departures of other guests meant we heard every foot step, chair being dragged, and spoon dropped. We got no sleep. Staff are fully aware of this problem. We were promised récompense and an email or telephone response. It’s been a week and nothing. It should be easy to move the kitchen to the basement by the fitness room. As a guest, avoid the ‘lower level’ (read basement) rooms at all costs.
