Don't miss the chance to visit the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral, the Earls and Bishops Palaces and the Orkney Museum to learn about the island’s fascinating past. Explore historic sites such as the ancient village of Skara Brae (22 miles), the standing stones of the Ring of Brodgar (17 miles) and the Broch of Gurness (12 miles). The dramatic Churchill Barriers (5 miles) and the beautifully decorated Italian Chapel (5.5 miles) are also must-sees. Take a day trip to Hoy, where the recently opened Scapa Flow Museum in Lyness offers a powerful glimpse into Orkney’s wartime history. In Orkney, you are surrounded by beautiful beaches, and there are plenty of walking routes too. You can also spend a day at the Pickaquoy Leisure Centre, where you’ll find a swimming pool, squash courts, gym, soft play for little ones, a cinema, and a full programme of classes and activities for all ages.
