Breakfast cannot be provided on Tuesday as the cafeteria is closed on that day.
Family of 4 Two adults and two teenagers. We rented the apartment Scirocco for 3 weeks in March 2018. It was perfect for us. I like that it had the kitchen, Bath and main entrance downstairs and the bedrooms upstairs.
Kitchen was fully equipped and if we needed anything, Sabastian, one of the owners was just a text away. The shower was beautiful and had plenty of hot water! We were given plenty of towels.(nice quality thick cotton in 3 sizes) The private courtyard outside the apartments is beautiful. It is also very securely locked, so I felt very safe not only in the courtyard area but in my apartment as well . There is laundry on site, some apartments have a washer and some don't. Our apartment did not have a washer but I just text Sabastian make an appointment and we can use the common area washer. Much to my delight there was a young man who put my wash in and then came to get me when it was done! The mattresses were very comfortable, and the bedding /pillows where very good quality. As for the area Trecastagni, everything you need is walking distance away. Butcher with amazing food is next door as well as a fruit market across the street and super helpful. Down the street are pizzerias, cute shops, an amazing bakery and gelato shop, and a few days a week there is a nice market with a bit of everything. Two blocks away is a courtyard with a Post office, Pharmacy, and I think police station.(there where always police close by) I felt at ease and safe. Catania city is just 10 miles away, and Mount Etna is practically in the back yard. I recommend renting a car, there is so much to see and do, you can cover a lot of sightseeing at your own pace with a car. A big THANK YOU to the owners for making our first international trip a huge success.
Apartment : The place is nicely renovated in a charming old house and everything worked as it should ( you need to wait 5 minutes for the hot water to come through). However, it is to the small side, i.e. no couch or the like to relax in the evenings/afternoons once the kids are asleep. Also, it is very hot in summer (the fan helps for one of the rooms) and there is no view of Etna from the apartment. The garden is not private, but that wasn't a problem for us.
Surroundings: We enjoyed small walks to the town center "just around the corner" in a characteristic Italian town with lots of local atmosphere.
While the apartment we stayed at was newly and cleverly renovated, it was not the sunny, Etna view "luxury cottage" we expected (pictured here) with a balcony. It was another flat across the courtyard, which felt a bit like a cellar carved out of the hillside. And we were very disappointed that while we had been promised a 4:00 check-in, we were denied access until 6:00 pm. Very tired from a long day on the road, that lowered our spirits considerably.
That being said, the owner did his best to make us comfortable. The bedroom and bathroom were pleasant and spacious. And we certainly enjoyed the quiet, typical town that seemed free of high tourist traffic.
