My room had no space for suitcases and to sit on toilet, your feet had to be in the shower. Needs to be renovated. staff was friendly and location was great.

Really good location as it’s a 5 min walk from the train station also very close to the ferry. The room is on the smaller side but that’s expected in Varenna. The gentlemen at the reception was very helpful and they were able to accommodate for late check-in. I would recommend this spot and for the location and the value.

Hi, so this is a quaint little place. Not modern at all. Still use proper keys for the doors, which I like. The location is ideal, when walking it's literally half way between the train station and ferry port. It was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was totally adequate, there was enough choice for me. Cereals, some cooked, continental choices, pastries and cakes, beverages and juices. The area wasn't huge, most of the tables only seat two people, but it was fine It was a good price compared to other hotels and I thought it good value for money. The bottom line for me is I would stay there again. If you are looking for a larger, more modern hotel then this may not be for you. However, if like me, you are of the mind it's just somewhere to get your head down at the end of the day. I thoroughly recommend this little hotel.

Old school hotel, large comfortable room, with usual amenities. Staff very friendly and helpful. The included breakfast had everything, and was very good. Location was perfect, very walkable. 3 min from ferry dock, 7 min to train station, 10 min to main town square. Highly recommended

Nice old hotel. Dated, naturally, but well kept, clean, and comfortable. Great breakfast. Very walkable. Ideal if you arrive in Varenna by train.

Clean. Comfortable bed. Helpful staff. We checked out very early the staff prepared packed breakfast for us. The only thing I didn’t like we have to walk uphill to get to our room. I injured my leg prior to our stay there so it was hard for me to get to our room.

Wonderful Stay at a Clean and Convenient Hotel! We had a great experience at Hotel Montecodeno. The property was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which made our stay very comfortable. The location couldn’t be more convenient — it’s just a short walk to both the ferry terminal and the train station, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. A special mention to Matteo, at the front desk, who was incredibly helpful and kind. We had to leave unexpectedly a day early, and he went out of his way to assist us and make the process smooth and stress-free. His professionalism and helpfulness really stood out. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the area — clean, convenient, and outstanding service!

The staff, receptionist and front desk were all very satisfactory, as well as the location. The hotel itself, however, was terrible. Among the many problems, it was mainly the humid air and horrid odor that stood out to me. The bathroom itself was not only extremely outdated, but was designed without the user in mind. It was an extremely tight and cramped space, as I was even unable to sit straight on the toilet. There were bed bugs in all of our rooms. We were a group of 7 and all had bites across 4 rooms. The sheets smelled of bleach.

Great location and good place to stay

Overall the hotel is a good choice. It’s very well located and has reasonable prices for the area. Breakfast was only just passable. I had a single room which was quite well set up. The mattress, however, urgently needs replacing as it has a large hollow at hip level from overuse. The bathroom was small but functional. Be aware, though, that the shower is very small and if you are larger than average you probably won’t have a particularly enjoyable shower.

The property needs updating and the room wasn’t that functional-safe was locked and I useable, bathroom was big but with virtually no storage area for toiletries and with a yrinal and toilet?, only an armoire to hang clothes and room was noisy with main road foot and street traffic. Staff is lovely, it’s well located, and very walkable from the ferries. Breakfast had real eggs , limited fruit and no decafe coffee All in all-a basic hotel that’s located just off lake “love” trail and within easy walking of main Varenna and ferries

10 minute walk to the station. 5 minute walk to the ferry. Location is amazing, it was clean and smelled great. Check in was a breeze very friendly. I had to catch an early train and couldn’t have the breakfast buffet but they made me a to go bag the night before to take with me! Highly recommend this place!
