What a beautiful home this. It is well-kept, has a well-stocked kitchen for cooking, and is 2 minutes from Carverâs Market. Everything about this space is welcoming down to the beach towels for the quarry, so much space to gather, and a gorgeous porch. The beds were so comfortable, especially the ones up the stairs from the laundry room. This was such a special experience. It was like visiting Grandmaâs: everything you need and comfort no matter what you do. I cannot wait to enjoy an iced tea on that beautiful porch again! Thank you, Shirleyâs House. You made us feel so welcome.
We loved our stay on Vinalhaven. The house is charming and well equipped. Two bedrooms are accessible by one set of stairs and the other two are reached by a different set of stairs, so going from one to the other means going downstairs, through the house and back up the other stairs. Not a problem for adults, but if you have kids who may need you in the night, it's something to be aware of. But the location is great! Walkable to town and easy drives to gorgeous walks and views of the water.
This was really like staying in Shirleyâs home. A well stocked kitchen, plenty of space for the 5 of us, accessible to everything. Even herbs growing in a big outdoor pot! The house was clean and very comfortable. 2 minute walk to the harbor, a short bike ride to the quarries.
Great house with interesting design. Great porch, great location in easy walking of downtown and the nature preserve. Well equipped with good wifi and a kitchen.
Shirley's House is an absolutely classic, clean, solid, incredibly charming place with enough space that 8 adults could comfortably and easily live together for a solid week. It's in a PERFECT location-- in a quiet neighborhood, but literally 3 minutes walking distance to downtown. The farm and fresh seafood stand "Two if By Sea" is even closer by, and we got a dozen lobsters for dinner one night that had been in the ocean six hours earlier (fully steamed and ready to eat, too!). A slightly longer but totally beautiful walk in the opposite direction gets you to Lane Island nature preserve and some amazing views and hiking trail. Our four grown children and two of their partners were with us, and fell into a regular cocktail hour in the late afternoon/early evening when the setting sun would flood the west-facing living room with light each day. We felt totally transported back in time for a week. Before we left, we overheard some of the "kids" making plans amongst themselves about when they might plan another trip to Shirley's House on their own. Maybe we've started a new tradition!
