The Royal Sonesta is a classy establishment close to a serene and upscale district of DC. Nearby are hotels, a campus of GeorgeTown University, and important museums and historic government buildings. The on-premise restaurant, Bistro Du Jour, has great French-fusion and classical French dishes stepped down for the international palate. All in all, this hotel is a solid choice for the discerning business or leisure traveller.

Property is awkward but nice. We have stayed there before and really enjoyed it. This time house cleaning left the door bolt open after cleaning our room, so the room and our possessions were exposed for a period of time. I went to the front desk and shared my contact information and was told a manager would reach out and I have not received anything. One day we were informed they missed cleaning our room by 9am and then next day nothing was done until after 3pm. We asked for a late check out and were told that does not exist and we would be charged $25 for every hour up to 4 hours. I have never experienced that at a hotel before. I only needed an extra hour to take a business call but no. Then there was a daily charge with a pitch that it covered wifi, a $10 daily credit to the restaurant and other things we would never utilize. This was a very disappointing visit.

The facility was very clean. Staff were always cleaning, mopping and emptying the trash in the lobby and throughout. Rooms were very nice. Hotel restaurant was pretty good, we ate there once due to the convenience upon arrival. The only downfall for us were the charges of $65. Per night for valet parking. We didn’t even use our vehicle once we parked due to the fact that every place we wanted to visit in the DC Capitol Hill area didn’t have private parking. So we used Lyft to go everywhere. Clearly, our Hotel parking should have been validated or reduced.
