Beautiful location and home. The kids (and parents) found plenty of room to play games, find quiet space, and eat together. Slept so well and enjoyed one of our favorite things about the Island - the rocky beaches!! This home is spectacular and takes me back to special memories of visits to the island over the past 4 decades. Fires and sunsets on the beach and only a 'stones throw' from Schoolhouse Beach. Perfect for this family of 5. We are so grateful for Bill, he was a great communicator and the house was exactly as we had expected. Gratitude for this trip!! Highly recommend.
We enjoyed our 2 week stay in this cottage on the lake shore. The new beds & furniture were very comfortable. The cottage is older but was very clean & well stocked with kitchen utensils.
The one word to describe our stay was âEpicâ
The view is amazing from the deck or down on the shore. Enjoyed the beautiful sunsets!! Stargazing every night & one night caught the ISS on its orbit. Thank you, Bill
Location was great! Lacking in some kitchen supplies or very old/cheap but ok due to location on water. Large hill to get to location made biking very hard. Rocky beach was hard to swim at - need swim shoes but we were told about that and the privacy was worth it. A bit hot without AC but thatâs ok. County park beach was a great find for non rocky swimming. Great place overall.
A wonderful and quiet vacation spot! We loved the private beach area and would have loved to use the firepit while looking over the water but it was too windy when we visited. The property is beautifully set on a rock bluff...we thought it would be neat to fill the area between the house and water with wildflowers to make it more appealing. Do note the steps to the water are a bit steep if you are not confident on your feet. The home is welcoming and has everything you need. It is dated but the 3 bedrooms worked out great for our group. We had a glitch with our payment since we booked through Expedia (you have to go through VRBO to finish your payment and I didn't realize that) and the property owner was very kind when we didn't realize our second payment was late. We would definitely stay here again.
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. Bill was easy to communicate with when I had questions about the property. While it rained most of our stay, we did get a chance to walk down to the beach/fire pit area. With plenty of seating and flat rocks laid out as a walkway, it would've been awesome to have a fire. Wifi worked great and we were able connect to the TV for music and movies. Out of the 3 bedrooms, we chose the one facing the lake. The bed was comfortable and I loved being able to look out to the lake in the morning.
Washington Island is so beautiful; one must stay for several days to enjoy all the local flavor and friendly folks. This house was perfectly located on the bluff overlooking the lake; a beautiful sunset every night, perfect spot for a campfire near the beach; Comfortable beds and windows that let the fresh lake breeze blow through. We highly recommend this wonderful home!
My wife and I are preparing for our busy season for work so we were looking for a few days in a beautiful private spot. Billâs cottage was perfect. Great views, beautiful pebble beach. Bill a great host, good communicator.
The views from the house and on the beach were amazing! Unfortunately it was pretty windy when we were there so we didn't get to enjoy a fire on the beach. The house was comfortable.
The view, deck, and beach area are spectacular. The well-constructed stairs down to the beach were very impressive. Beds were comfy and the bathroom was updated. Plenty of room to spread out. If youâre sensitive to smells, there was a musty odor that needed to be aired out. Iâm sure in the summer, when the house is occupied and opened more, that probably isnât an issue. The kitchen and original parts of the house are quite old, but appliances were newer. A unique property with a really nice outdoor area.
The property was as advertised and Bill was easy to communicate with. The home was older but it had everything we needed. The location was secluded and had a nice walkway down to the rock beach. The nights were cool and the heat worked great and it was very comfortable. As advertised, you must bring your own bed linens and towels. Note that this also includes kitchen towels. The area was nice, Washington Island is a great place to visit. We took the ferry up to Rock Island which was fun. It was less than 10 minute drive to the ferry from this location. It is also located close to popular Schoolhouse Beach and multiple restaurants.
This is a great little space! Pictures provided are accurate. The private beach area is wonderful any time of dayâ we enjoyed our coffee sitting in the provided chairs and listening to the waves every morning.
We used the charcoal grill a couple times and had dinner on the deck almost every evening.
We had had stunning sunsets and a couple of evening storms that made for some wonderful pictures with the cloud formations.
A couple things to note â while the kitchen is decently stocked with cookware and utensils there are is no cooking spray, herbs and spices for grilling etc. so bring from home or be prepared to stop at the grocery store in town. There really isnât a lot of Tupperware for storing leftovers in the fridge either, so keep those things in mind if you like to make meals at home while vacationing at VRBOs like we do. Also, donât forget hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom as no linens are provided. (Itâs stated, we just happened to forget those smaller towels)
While there is no air conditioning there are fans to use in every room to keep air circulating.
Overall, this is a beautiful, quiet space that we would stay at again.
We spent beautiful days in a perfect setting. We enjoyed peaceful mornings and beautiful sunset at this property that was so quiet, yet is was only a short distance from town.
Bill made communication very easy, quickly responding to any and all questions we had.
We would definitely return.
Nice getaway. We stayed 4 nights. Pros are it's very quite and you feel like no one is around you. Beautiful sunsets down by the lake with a fire pit. Very clean property. Enough dishes and cooking items to make meals. Had lots of fun exploring the island. Overall we were very satisfied. Cons are it's a small bluff from the lake to the house so lots of steps (not a problem for us, but wouldn't be great for someone who doesn't do steps well). Lake side by fire pit is all rocks. Pretty, but hard to walk on. Not huge cons, overall we enjoyed it. Would stay again.
This cottage was perfect for a long weekend with friends!! The cottage had some great charm and we spend a lot of time sitting in front of the fire place in the house. The view was what brought us to this cottage. From listening to the waves crash on the rocks in the morning to watching the sunset at night on our own beach with a fire going it was perfect! Will definitely be back to the lovely place!!
We have been coming to the Island for many years. This was our 1st time at this property. We absolutely LOVED everything from the location to the charming home. BEAUTIFUL VIEWS !!.. We felt at home away from home..
We loved the gorgeous views from the house, deck, and beach, especially at sunset. We had a beach bonfire one night and it was amazing. The house was cute and comfortable and had plenty of room for our family, including 3 college and high school age boys. The stairs and boardwalk down to the beach are very nice and there's plenty of seating down there. You'll definitely need water shoes as it's very rocky and it's a bit tricky to get in and out of the water, but once you're in It's cool and clear and feels great. We loved the privacy and having our own private beach. It was just the relaxing getaway we needed!
Property is bigger than it looks in the pictures. Kitchen was well stocked and beds were comfortable. Has a slight musty smell but not terrible. Walk down the stairs is tougher than we thought it would be but views are spectacular! Loved it and would definitely rent again.
My husband and I and our 3 kids (14,11,8) stayed in the house for a week. It was in a beautiful, secluded location and exactly as listed. The 1/4 bathroom is a toilet in a mud/storage room but there is no sink in the room. We would definitely stay there again...especially if a washer/dryer were added to the amenities. That was the one thing we felt was missing at this location. Check in/out was simple, plenty of extra pillows and blankets available for use as well.
