Known locally as âthe gateway to The Cheviotsâ Wooler is a delightful, historic market town on the banks of the River Till, one of the tributaries of the Tweed, nestling in the foothills of the Cheviots which form part of the Pennine Way. There is a good selection of hotels and eating places to enjoy including The Doddington Milk Bar, which offers an opportunity for you to dine for breakfast and lunch or indulge in one of their array of sweet treats and of course the famous Doddington Dairy ice cream. To the east is the magnificent coastline of Northumberland, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with great trips to be had to Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Seahouses harbour, or the birdwatcherâs paradise of The Farne Islands. Situated on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, Wooler is just a short drive away from the historic town of Alnwick with its famous Castle and Gardens, and the well-preserved Garrison town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Chillingham Castle with its ancient herd of wild white cattle and Coldstream, just over the Scottish border, are also a short drive away.

Cottage was lovely. Cosy with plenty of quirky character. Wooler is great as we love antique shops an ideal base to visit the hills the coast, castles and Scotland. We canĂąâŹâąt wait to return and stay at St CuthbertĂąâŹâąs Retreat.

Lovely cottage adjoining the owners home with full use of their beautiful garden. If you expect brand new this is not for you but this is a really homely and comfortable holiday home. Very well equipped kitchen our only feedback was that the fridge was a bit small for us catering for a full week. Also great base to explore the area. Thanks to Gill and David for their hospitality and our lovely welcome gift including a bowl and ball our dog Alfie -really nice touch.

We love this cosy cottage with access to a beautiful (shared) garden and a perfect location right in the centre of Wooler (and next to the bookshop!). The cottage has bags of character and is very clean and warm (in February). The master bedroom is beautiful. Accessing the bathroom from the main bedroom involves some steps (which wasn't a problem for us but worth noting for some). Highly recommended for those who like cosy cottages in remote parts of England surrounded by beautiful countryside (with easy access by car to the coast).
