Luxury B&B on a houseboat in the canals of Amsterdam

In 2009 we built our own houseboat, a dream that came true. To wake up in the morning with the reflection of the sunlight on the surface of the water and hear the water birds singing is a unique way to live within the city. To share with you the experience and feeling of living on a houseboat in the canals of Amsterdam, we created a stylish and comfortable bed and breakfast on our houseboat. We are very proud of the result and would like to welcome you on our BedonBoard.
The BedonBoard is a beautiful light room with adjacent private bathroom in a new, spacious and modern houseboat. The room is located on a quiet walkway near the Westerpark and at 500 meters from the Jordaan.
The room has a comfortable king-size bed (1.80 x 2.10), a modern bathroom with private toilet, shower. There is a fridge, a water boiler and a coffee maker. You can also sit outside the B&B on the terrace at the entrance.

BedonBoard is located 500 meters from the heart of the Jordaan, in the historic center of Amsterdam. The Jordaan is an area full of small restaurants, terraces, fun shops alternating with beautiful canals, small streets and with a variety of wonderful historic buildings. The Jordaan borders on the well-known shopping area the Nine Small Streets (literally: Nine Little Streets) were you can also find many small shops and cozy restaurants.

Within walking distance you will find highlights like the Anne Frank House, the Westertower, the Dam square, the Royal Palace and the Amsterdam Historic Museum. BedonBoard is easily accessible by car and public transport (see below under "Accessibility"), but once you're here, the easiest means of transportation is by bicycle (see tab "Bicycle rental").

The BedonBoard is a 10 minute walk from the nicest shopping street in Amsterdam (and awarded second best shopping street of the Netherlands 2011): Haarlemmerdijk and about 15 minutes from Central Station or Leidseplein.

It is a further 500 meters walk North to the beautiful, and recently fully renovated Westerpark, also known as the "Culture Park" of Amsterdam. In Westerpark you will find a classic Victorian style park section, a large center section for cultural events and a more rugged part with trails for walkers or runners. Centrally located in the park you will find the Espresso factory with simply the best coffee Amsterdam has to offer. Enjoy a superb breakfast in the nearby bakery shop. Every Sunday of the month there is a farmers market in the park. If you're looking for something very close to the BedonBoard, we recommend the Pavilion.

In summary, a peaceful but central location in a nice neighborhood in Amsterdam.

ACCESSIBILITY:

From the airport you can take a train to central station (20 min). From there you can either walk (20 minutes), take a cab (approximately € 13) or take bus 21 (less than 10 minutes).
To take bus 21. When you arrive at Central Station, exit on the city side (main exit). Take bus no. 21 and get off after 5 minutes at the stop “van Beuningenplein”. On the other side of the street you will see a large square with a play garden: the "van Beuningenplein". Take the road left of this square (Tweede Keucheniusstraat) and follow 150 meters to the very end. You are in front of your BedonBoard!
When you decide to come by car. You can almost always park your car in front of the BedonBoard. However, Amsterdam is not very "car friendly" as the city charges rather high rates for parking. Alternatively, go to Park and Ride Amsterdam for cheaper parking options. The Park and Ride that is closest to us is the "P + R Sloterdijk". The cost for Park and Ride is € 8 per day. They offer return tickets for public transport free of charge.

nice stay on a pretty canal
Our stay was lovely. The room was nice & located on a pretty & quiet canal. It is walkable, and near bus stops & good restaurants. My only feedback is that the check-in process was a bit stressful... the host insisted on sending a video that detailed how to check in, which was an inconvenience because the video was too large to send via the VRBO app, and required using valuable phone data to download (I was traveling abroad & on a limited phone plan). And in the end, the video was totally unnecessary (all we needed was the lockbox number). Getting to the bottom of all of that was a stressful & drawn-out process, while we were traveling into Amsterdam via train. If we had been flying directly into Amsterdam it would have been untenable. But once we arrived & settled in, it was a lovely room. The room is located inside the host's houseboat where they live, so you do have to walk through the host's shared entryway to get to your room. The window that opens out onto the canal was very nice, and it was lovely watching ducks swimming just outside our room. Another reviewer was disappointed at the view across the canal being a brick wall, but it wasn't a problem for us--we actually appreciated the privacy it provided. We enjoyed having a glass of wine in our room, looking out onto the canal. There are several great coffee shops nearby, and a lovely park. Overall it was a nice place to stay, and we very much enjoyed our time in Amsterdam!

Not a VRBO
At the time of our booking this listing was described as a house boat with one room, a bathroom and kitchen. Upon our arrival we discovered it was only one room of a house boat with at least three other bedrooms. Two bedrooms adjacent to the one we rented were occupied by the hosts and another below ours was rented to other visitors. The hosts and VRBO created a very misleading listing. The hosts were extremely noisy, using loud voices and slamming doors until midnight. There was no kitchen it was only a very small refrigerator, a kettle, coffee maker and a set of dishes for two all in the corner of the bedroom. No sink and no way to heat foods. We washed our dishes in the small bathroom sink. The toilet barely had room for a 6’ person to sit without hitting their knees and the shower is only partially enclosed splashing water onto the floor in front of the sink. We were contacted four times after making our reservation. The first time Doet explained she needed an extra payment in cash when we arrived due to her forgetting to raise the rent for the high season. All communication was thru the VRBO app until we arrived in Amsterdam; then we were instructed to call the provided phone number so our hosts could estimate our arrival time. Doet answered and said Sven would greet us upon our arrival at the house boat. He let us in the room and made sure to collect the extra euros I was charged for our reservation. Sadly, we are extremely disappointed with VRBO :-(

A nice stay on a houseboat.
The room was cosy and decorated to a high standard. Although check in was not possible until 4pm due to other guests checking out the same day, the host kindly allowed us to drop our luggage off when we arrived at 12. There is a bike rents shop nearby which is convenient. If you have bikes then the location is great as it is in a quiet location but also very close to centra Amsterdam.

Quiet part of town but be prepared to walk as it is some distance from the central station. Not a problem for us except late at night when we were tired. Public transport does cover the whole of Amsterdam however. Hosts were very pleasant and kept a low profile allowing us to do our own thing but helpful when needed. Highly recommend this canal boat stay. Different.

Great location; very loud and shared space
We traveled from western Canada to visit Amsterdam . Our last correspondence to the host, we specifically stated that we could not call on our arrival , as requested, but could communicate thru wifi (email). When we arrived at the airport, and gathered our luggage, we checked our email. No new correspondence. We hailed a taxi and started to head over. In seeing that I was receiving calls from the host, I put my data on to call her, only to be "scolded" for not letting her know that our flight was late and this would hinder a smooth "check in". Bad vibe right from the start. The "luxury" in the title is deceiving. However, this is a vacation "home"; what we didn't expect was that we would be subject to family upsets. Please know that with your stay you are amongst a family and steps away from the hall to the main living area. We were jet lagged for the first couple of days and the door slamming and the loud talking kept us up at night or outright woke us up, it was consistent throughout the week and we thought, inconsiderate. We were on vacation and expected the same respect we gave to their family. We had doors slamming and loud discussions in the hallway at 2:00 a.m. On arrival, I went to use the bathroom and there was no soap provided to wash hands. You're not allowed to flush toilet paper down the toilet so you have to put your urine and feces filled toilet paper in a little garbage can beside the toilet. The amenities stated are what you get and nothing more, so please be prepared. No TV, no microwave, no soap, no shower door so the bathroom floor gets completely drenched, no balcony, but a large window that opens to the canal that is full of garbage and looking at a brick wall and the resident ducks have no problem making a lot of noise predawn. We did not go there to see the scenery of the house. Perhaps the main dwelling is unique and luxurious, but the BandB was a small room. We lived out of our suitcases for 6 days. We did have fresh towel exchange on the third day. The best part of staying there was the cafe's and pubs in the area. We met the most amazing people at the Rooster bar and Checkpoint Charlie which are just a few blocks away. We took different walking routes to the centre of the city daily where we were greeted and met, as we have in the past, the most beautiful Dutch people. I would not recommend this place for long stays. Perhaps an overnighter.
