El Tovar was a pricey hotel and perhaps I expected more for NYC prices but was pretty disappointed.
firstly, this is definitely a rustic hotel. I get that we’re out west and at the Grand Canyon but I do mean it is rustic. It’s also pretty dark inside. The overall effect is not great...dark and not inviting.
things were not better in the room. The rooms are oddly structured and not roomy at all. The bathrooms are a weird mix of roomie but not a lot of space to put your toiletries on. So you get the effect of a lot of room but no actual convenient place to store your normal every day, things like shavers, shaving cream, etc. I found the shower to be weak and that’s a big "no"in my book for a hotel.
on the plus side, the service was good. Had a couple issues at the front desk took care of and double check to make sure that I was happy. I definitely appreciate that touch.
Overall, I’d save some money and stay outside the park since you’re not getting much for your money when you stay at this hotel, other than, I guess, location, location, location.
