Much Needed Retreat
I was looking for something on the quieter side, self-contained and with a breathtaking view. Villa Isis hit the mark on all fronts. Perfect for someone traveling solo or for a couple.
The kitchen and bathroom were bright and clean. The kitchen was stocked with all your essential appliances and tools including a blender (novelty), a sharp knife (often missing) and a gas stove.
Marigot Bay is lovely. The grocery store and ATM listed in my travel guide were closed due to COVID, but you can find everything you need a short drive away. I am sure things will reopen as tourism ramps up in the upcoming weeks.
There are ample restaurants in the bay and they all accept credit cards. I enjoyed a lovely meal at Doolittle’s (suggest the catch of the day) before spending the afternoon at the cozy little beach. I heard the lobster at JJ’s is fantastic, but you need to call ahead to make a reservation.
I went on an island tour down to Soufriere via Real St. Lucia Tours, which was pretty good. The Tet Paul trail was the highlight for me with a spectacular view of the Pitons. The Soufriere region is popular with tourists so start any tour early to avoid the cruise ship crowds. I also spent a day at Anse Cochon sunbathing and snorkeling, which is a must and not too far by taxi.
If you are planning to walk down to the marina, it is maybe 15 minutes on foot and drivers are careful of pedestrians on the road (keep yourself visible). It is a bit of a climb coming back up the hill, so prepare yourself for that last leg! But completely worth the view once you return home.
