Our experience was unfortunately not what we had hoped for. From the moment we arrived, there were signs that this place needed serious attention. The exterior of the building bore visible cracks and neglected paintwork, with awnings showing wear and tear. The presence of exposed wires added to the overall sense of neglect and lack of maintenance. One of the concerning aspects was the structural integrity of the building itself. It was apparent that the windows and air conditioning units were not properly aligned, suggesting potential issues with construction or upkeep. This, coupled with the general disrepair, raised safety concerns. Navigating the hotel's layout only added to our unease. The back entrance, facing the parking lot, was inaccessible, forcing us to take a detour past what appeared to be an abandoned restaurant. This lack of a functional entry point detracted from any sense of security or comfort. Upon glimpsing the lobby, it became evident that the organization and upkeep of the interior mirrored the external state of disrepair. This further solidified our decision to seek alternative accommodations, prioritizing our safety and peace of mind. While our experience was disappointing, we hope that this review serves as a cautionary note for fellow travelers. It's essential to prioritize safety and comfort when choosing accommodation, and unfortunately, the Mark Twain Hotel fell short in these regards during our visit.

We stayed at this property 10 years ago and really enjoyed our stay. Sadly things have changed. We arrived and cancelled our stay. It’s gone to pot sadly.

The door by the parking lot was blocked off due to some snow. It was below zero but everyone had to walk around to get in. No shuttle to the civic center. No free continental breakfast.

Call to make sure you have a room after reserving!
The hotel has usually been very good, but this year they somehow lost ALL reservations made before November for a large January educators conference meaning numerous people arrived with reservations from hotels.com on their apps and no room for them. To make it better, the front desk worker told me they had a smaller room available and gave me the price quote for the full time I was scheduled to be there. I told them I'd take it and asked if I should come back for the new receipt at the end of a 3 day stay and was told "Yes when you check out Saturday we will have the receipt". Returned Thursday night to find all my stuff was gone. The front desk then told me I had only been booked for 1 night and they took all my stuff out. BUT my key still worked in the door where they had checked me out before! So if the next person has been in the room, when I walked in to find my stuff missing I could have walked in to whoever was there despite being "checked out" without my knowledge. The location is great and the rooms are usually pretty good, but in the 7 years I have been attending this conference this is the 3rd or 4th year I have heard of people having problems with rooms not being available or sold out from under. Make sure you call weeks before so you are sure you actually have a room!

This hotel has gone "downhill"!
The hotel room was not very clean. Stain on the spread. Very thin spread, thin blanket and sheets. Had to turn up the heat to stay warm (January in IL)! Bathroom could have been cleaner. Only 1/2 shower door so the bathroom floor got wet. My room faced Interstate 74 and it was SO LOUD! I only got a few hours sleep due to the noise. No restaurant or bar (last time I stayed there, pre-pandemic, they had these.) Elevator was very noisy - they even recommended using the stairs - I was on the 7th floor!! They charge a $40 fee that will supposedly be returned after the payment clears my bank!! I will not stay here ever again!!

We got to the hotel late in the evening to check in, waited a half hour in the lobby, no one ever came to the desk. We walked all over the hotel to find someone, there was no one around. Front door not locked, elevators not locked. We were forced to leave there in subzero temps to drive to another hotel. The most awful and unsafe experience.

Every thing is nice and clean.i have to come back to Peoria every 9 weeks for my wife's kemo I will definitely come back.thank you Mark Twain hotel very nice place to stay.
