We stopped over the night before our flight from Gatwick and unfortunately we did not sleep well in Room 8. When we retired to bed we discovered that right outside our room window was an overflow pipe of some sort which was flooding water from a height of roughly 6 feet onto the roof beneath. The noise from constant splashing prevented us from sleeping for hours and woke us frequently. By this time, staff had left the building so we were left to cope with it. While it was raining some of the night, in the morning we found the rain had stopped yet gallons of water continued to gush continuously from this pipe. Whatever this outlet pipe is for, a proper downpipe desperately needs to be fitted so that the water falls gently onto the roof beneath.
It is such a shame because other than that issue the room was a decent size, nicely furnished and decorated, equipped with a good size TV and large bathroom complete with bath. And the pub downstairs was nice with great staff.
On arriving at The Star Inn and seeing the pub and room we really felt we had found our “go to” hotel when travelling from Gatwick, but given the lack of sleep, we’re now not so sure. Perhaps if we had some assurances the downpipe had been installed and could sleep.
