There were ants in the kids beds, some dead spiders, and dead roaches in the house. Location is good, close to the beach, and other then having to clean up the bugs, the house was good enough for our family.
So to start on a positive note, this house was definitely at a prime location with the deck being an incredible spot to watch the ocean as the suns rising/going down. It being so close to the beach was so convenient in case you needed to go back and grab anything. Now, I can understand that not every house is going to be the cleanest, but there were some major concerns. There were light fixtures with exposed wiring hanging above one of the bunk beds upon arrival and since no one was able to get out there that night to fix, we werenât able to use that bed. My daughter woke up in the middle of the night the first night with ant bites, come to find out there were ants allllll in the bed. When investigating under one of the top bunks, there were also tons of ants swarming under the mattress. Soooo 3 different beds were not able to be slept in. When communicating with the manager it was a lot of âdid you see any raid at the house?â But it was apparent this house was not deeply cleaned before arrival. Itâs quite run down, the laundry room doors do NOT work at all, which made attempting to do laundry almost impossible. Thereâs a hose outside we thought we could use to rinse down after the beach but that was duct taped and no running water came out. Due to the lack of beds we were able to use with 6 people, we were having to sleep on sofas and there was not good sleep to be had. The WiFi to the main tv will not work. This house needs major renovations.
Iâll start with the pros: amazing location, walk to the beach, can see & hear the waves crashing from the deck, small, but a perfect size nice bed layout for a small family get away.
Now, for the cons: this property is RUN DOWN. It needs a deep cleaning & some fresh paint. It has not been well maintained. We had 4 people & only 2 full size bath towels. All the lamps were missing light bulbs, there were ANTS in the master bed! The sliding doors to the washer & dryer fell off the track. We had NO wifi the entire time we were there, which meant no tv streaming. So, the post-beach lazy pizza & movie night were out!
The property manager did bring us towels & lightbulbs. But no one came to fix the wifi. They texted me instructions to reset the modem. Which I did & it didnât work, & after that-nothing.
The bottom floor of the house is basically unusable as additional sleeping area. It is so sticky & humid, no one could sleep there. All we used the downstairs for was to rinse off the the sand & do laundry.
Everything in the house felt stripped down. Rods hung, but missing the curtains.
We made it work for just a quick weekend get away. But, it was far from East & relaxing & wouldnât recommend or stay there again.
The location was great- short walk to the beach and wagon available! The view was very nice and the porch/seating are great until about 11am when the sun hits and my kids loved the hammock. The home was clean with functional furniture and kitchen supplies. The mattresses were flimsy and water pressure was lacking. Not really an issue for us, but the interior staircase is tiny, so outside is more useful for loading/unloading. Be sure to read the description closely, as 3 âbedroomsâ is misleading. The master is very spacious, but second room has a grouping of bunks with a door and the third is the downstairs living room with futon/fold out. Iâd stay again being a little more mindful of the bedroom situation because the location canât be beat.
Functional little beach cottage with great air conditioning
While it is a small cottage - it is very functional and has more than square footage conveys. We never cooked but had breakfast and lots of coffee every day. WiFi was very good strength. Beds were comfy. Air Conditioning is fantastic. Both upstairs showers were very good. Location is amazing - only few houses from beach. The upstairs outdoor seating though is mainly in the sun after about 11am.
Beach won't be the crowded because not much parking available at the beach (and you can't drive onto the beach).
The new bar that is close by (about 0.8 mile walk) is cute, lots of games to play - no children allowed though.
The location is perfect for state park (Great hiking on inner bay side). Restaurants nearby are great - try Way West Grill and Waterman's Restaurant. . Go downtown - and try the Toujouse Bar at the Tremonth Hotel. Visit the many Juneteenth sites . Try Galveston Island Beer. and eat at Fisherman's Wharf restaurant.
Note the stairs INSIDE are curved and a little challenging if you have knee issues or above a certain age. The downstairs can feel secluded from upstairs - but the bed is really just laying across a couch.
We used OUTDOOR stairs to go up/down because easier on the knees and not space limited for carrying stuff.
The only reason not perfect is the 2nd bedroom (which is upstairs) does NOT seal off. It has an opening at the top of the wall. Hard to explain the layout. The downstairs "bed' is really just to lay on the couch. The other ding was
