Key Cottage is the keystone of the New Park property. It's homey, cozy, and private. It has many signature New Park elements, such as stained glass, incredible stonework, and incredibly rare Brazilian purpleheart floors, with a splash of Padouk wood.
Key is not without its quirks. The quirks quickly grow on you - the angles of the ceiling, the plethora of doors and windows...it will soon feel like home. And when you go home, you'll wonder why all your windows aren't circular, why your floor isn't purple, and why you don't have an outside door in your bathroom.
Key Cottage has a queen sized bed and a click-clack lay down couch. Key Cottage is a studio set-up - the couch is in the same room as the bed.
The cottage also has a full kitchen witha large fridge, oven, stove, and sink. It also has coffee (super important) and wine glasses. Lots of counter space too....wayyyy more than you need, but if you take a step back, you'll realize that the island in the center of the room is in the shape of a keyhole and it will all make sense.
The sitting area is cozy with a couch, a couple of chairs, some poufs, and a fuzzy rug. Then, when you walk through the keyhole shaped door, you'll find a large dining table. There will be some locked cabinets in here, but you won't care. The cottage has heat (including a fireplace) and AC.
The bathroom has everything! Large counter, walk-in shower and...what everyone needs in their bathroom...a door to the outside world! It's weird! But at one point in time, New Park allowed camping, and that was the "camper's bathroom", so it did exist for a reason. We kept it because when you're unloading groceries it's just SO easy to nip through the bathroom than run all the way around the cottage. So there you go!
Key is a standalone cottage and is dog-friendly. We do ask that you cover the furniture with an old sheet if your dog gets up on furniture.
Note: We are a chore-free property!
We have to also tell you a bit about New Park! New Park is an 18 acre property just north of Ithaca. It was originally a roadside motel, but in the 90s, every room was transformed into a work of art. Stained glass, handcrafted stonework, and incredible woodwork laces every single room. There is one room called the "Wish Room" which has a wood burning fireplace in the middle of the room. New Park also has an event space and a picnic area by a creek that is so beautiful that people get married there almost every weekend of summer.
New Park also has a total of 7 suites and can sleep up to 22 people across them, so bring some family and friends with you! Each cottage is listed separately, and we also have a listing for our "Triple Suite".
Came to visit our daughter at college, and brought our dog with us. Love that we could do that! Great location and beautiful outdoor spaces.
Some great things about the cottage that we didn't even see in the description:
- Very close to rail trail - nice walk to Taughannock Falls about 5.5 miles round trip
- Heated floor in the bathroom!
- Gas fireplace comes on automatically based on temp setting - very cozy!
This place was simply amazing. Words or pictures do not do this place any sort of justice. We will definitely be back. Rebecca was awesome. We cannot wait to return to this amazing property. Every single thing about this place was perfect.
My wife described it as a hobbit cabin with modern conveniences. The tile and stonework was incredible and the great furnishings were perfect for the cabin decor.. She enjoyed the cabin in the woods feel.
Was a great spot for a short get away. We brought our dogs with us, first trip weâve ever taken them on and was a great experience! Very clean accommodations, and house was warm for beginning of February. Was too cold outside to enjoy much of the outdoor areas, we will definitely be coming back during warmer season to be able to utilize everything!
We came for the location near Ithaca, but will return for the charm of the cottages and their exquisite finishes. Very comfortable space for us and our dog, in a beautiful area.
My family were on a small trip through the Finger Lakes and Key Cottage was the perfect escape to enjoy a relaxed evening outside of Ithaca NY. It was quaint and comfortable ans my niece kept saying she felt like we were in the hobbit village from Lord of the Rings! We will definitely stay again!
The location of this property is great for exploring the area. Many nice hikes within a short drive. Very private. We stayed in Key Cottage and enjoyed the unique character as well as the fun of discovering the keys and keyholes within the suite.
