Great No Matter What the Weather
Vanderkamp was the ideal setting for small family 50th Anniversay celebration. Although the weather wasnât perfect, we were able to be outside for 2 of our 4 days â hiking, paddleboarding, canoeing, fishing, and playing yard games. Off the dock it was very weedy and mucky, but it was fun to watch the fish and snakes. Inside there was ample room to either be together or find quiet places to read or relax. The kitchen was WELL-stocked with dishes, glasses, mugs, and silverware. The cooking equipment was good quality, but there werenât many large pots for a group of 14. We had our own chef who brought a blender, wok, big kettle (for corn) and serving platters. Our group had various levels of mobility and appreciated no stairs getting in the front door. From that entrance, it was a gentle slope down to the beautiful fire pit. There were downstairs bedrooms; one with a bathroom that was wheelchair accessible. Being an old building, the stairs to the second floor were steep. The ensuite bathroom had a high tub. Weâd suggest installing a grab bar. The staff at Vanderkamp was wonderful. Sally answered pre-visit questions quickly. On site, Jim brought us an extra coffee maker (drip) and fishing poles. He told us to use anything we see â just put it back when you leave. The lodge was beautifully furnished and many amenities like soap, shampoo, and trash bags were provided. It was the perfect place for our nature-loving couple to celebrate 50 years together.
