great location, but uncomfortable

Stayed for a week in December. We had been to Middle Caicos before, so knew what to expect of the area. Views from the house are great, but the house itself was uncomfortable to stay in. None (not one!) of the windows in the upstairs room open-they are nailed shut and the one that does open has no screen. As a result, the room is hot and smells musty. We expected to sleep with the sound of the ocean; instead we had to run the A/C or suffocate. The windows in the living room do not open either- just the two screen doors. All of the screens have holes, so we had gnats, no-see-ums, and mosquitos in the house and got bitten constantly when inside. The lighting in the house is also poor- all overhead fan lights- no lamps- so at night the living area and kitchen were either pitch black or super bright. One thing to note- the hot tub is in the upstairs bedroom, so anyone that wants to access it is in the bedroom with you, there is no privacy. House was not well stocked-especially given the remoteness of the location; one roll of paper towels, one dishwashing tablet, no batteries, etc. We have stayed in many houses around the world, given the price of this house, it was not up to par. Owner was responsive to questions before we arrived, but when I emailed asking about screens so we could open a window, got no answer. People on Middle Caicos are wonderful; we will go back, but would not stay at this property again. I understand it is for sale; with some investment it could be great.

Dear Casey, I am very sorry to hear that you found aspects of the house disappointing. Until now we have always received 5 star reviews! It is particularly disappointing that you did not receive the 2 emails I sent answering your question about the windows. There are two windows that you could have opened in the bedroom along with sliding doors to a fully screened area. There should have been no problem whatsoever with airflow! We are astonished to hear that the screens have holes in them as we were in the property in November and they were in perfect condition. Again, if you had mentioned this, that would have been sorted immediately. Mosquito screens always let no-see-ums in so it is best to close the doors when it gets dark. It is also a pity that you didn’t request more supplies from the Property Manager whom you met and spoke with. The fact there was only one dishwasher tab was an oversight, and we will ensure that does not happen again.
