The Old town of Dubrovnik is the most known and desirable destination in Dubrovnik. In the past, Old City became an important force in the whole Mediterranean after the 13th century. Although significantly destroyed by the earthquake of 1667, Dubrovnik managed to keep and preserve its Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces, and fountains.Today inside the Walls you have almost everything that you might need: cultural sights, cinemas, galleries theaters, lots of cafes, and restaurants. During the day it is pretty much crowded with tourists and domestic people, and music from bars and restaurants during the night is not the first option for those who are seeking peace and a quiet place to stay. Despite that Old Town of Dubrovnik offers liveliness and charm that you cannot find in other parts of Dubrovnik. Stradun, the main street in Old City is only 300 m long but offers the most famous sights as you walk along the way. Onofrio's Fountain, the Franciscan Monastery, the Sponza Palace, Orlando's Column, the Rector's Palace, the Dubrovnik Cathedral and Treasury, the Church of St. Vlaho, Synagogue, Marin DrĆŸiÄ House, Ethnographic Museum Rupe, Aquarium... The most impressive sight is well preserved, City Walls. Only 2 km long and 25 m high used to be protected in the past. The most important and well-preserved 5 fortresses give a unique shape to this Old town. Those are Fort of MinÄeta, Revelin, Bokar, St. John, and outside Lovrjenac. Traffic is forbidden inside the Walls and parking is almost mission impossible in case you decide to stay as much as closer to the Old City...
This is a great little apartment, right at the top of the city , under the walls . With a small terrace and washing and drying facilities. Itâs a bit of a hike from the centre and thereâs steep narrow steps to get to the property. I would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues. The bathroom is under the eaves , so I imagine taller people might struggle with the shower . We had a slight problem with the toilet but it didnât spoil our stay . Dubrovnik is a fabulous place and this was a good place to explore it from .
We didn't end up staying there, they did not charge our credit card on the date. The contract through VRBO said that they were to charge it, then we had a hard time contacting them, so we ended up booking another VRBO paying for full for that one, then suddenly these guys charged our card about two weeks later and wouldn't give us a full refund. It was kind of a disaster.
Two major problems with our three-day stay in Dubrovnik: property is at the highest point in Old Town, and it requires hauling our bags up 100 or more steps, and 2) the shower needs a total overhaul.
Sadly, this property is not being maintained and kitchen is poorly equipped. We noticed a urine smell and broken furniture the first few minutes in the unit. Reported the broken furniture and a missing electrical power supply cord to property manager right away. Nothing was fixed in the 3 days we were there. We had to keep the bathroom door closed and bathroom window open all the time to minimize the urine odor. But it still reeked. The shower curtain was cloth with no liner, so water went right thru the curtain. Later in our stay, we found a second piece of furniture broken. The owner should make the necessary repairs. The location is very good, the bed was comfortable, and AC worked well. There are MANY steps to get to it from the main Pile Gate. but we like to exercise, so did not mind the steps. Thereâs a fantastic little restaurant âLady Pi Piâ just a few steps away. We loved Dubrovnik, plan to return, but will not stay at this particular property again. We stayed in Croatia 21 days, 10 stops. Wonderful trip! This was the only property we wouldnât stay at again. Heed our warning, or bring nose plugs!
Muuuy mal.
