1. This is camping in the back hills. Worth the trip. It is as advertised. bring your own blankets and food that can be warmed on a wood stove. 2. The area had a recent fire but is recovering nicely. 3. the camp itself is worth the trip 4. Communication from expedia to vrbo to Dan Sasquach was severely lacking.

DON'T STAY HERE!!!

Publié le 12 déc. 2023 sur HomeAway
Easily the worst Vrbo experience I have ever had. After driving miles through a burnt out forest, my wife and I arrived at the destination only to find that someone lives in it. The unit was dirty, had the person's personal effects strewn all over, liquor bottles, it had an unpleasant odor and was not anything like the pics that Vrbo showed. My wife and I left immediately. I have every intention of getting a refund on this unit.

Interesting and fun

Loved this place and would recommend. My only minor complaint is that the pathway leading up to the building was overgrown to a point where I had to duck and dodge a rose branch and grape vines. I love wild overgrown gardens but pathways should be kept open. It made it more difficult to load and unload than necessary. After a 6 hour drive with the sun beating on you, you don’t want any more complications. Again, besides that, wonderful.

Off grid adventure

Publié le 6 juill. 2023 sur HomeAway
Our first drive into the property has me anxious, because the road was on the side of a mountain! Once there, it was truly a sanctuary. We loved our hobbit hole! Each day we spoke with wonderful people living at this property, including the kind owner, Dan. The bed in the hobbit hole was very comfortable. The smell of the hobbit hole was like old burned wood which took getting used to. There was also spiders and eggs around the hobbit hole- thankfully spiders aren’t so scary to me but I could imagine this being a problem if you don’t like spiders. The composting toilet was really best too- not gross at all and now I’m convinced we all need them! We love the hobbit hole!

Hobbit house

Publié le 3 juill. 2023 sur HomeAway
We were not fully prepared for staying here. We forgot a few essentials, but we made it work. I would definitely bring your own pillows and blankets. I would also suggest a solar powered or battery lantern or flash light. There is a sink in the room, but the bathroom is a short walk up the hill. The hobbit house was fun to stay in! The only complaint is lack of air flow and the mice. Even with the door open, not a lot of cool air got in because there are no windows to open. The community is pretty cool! It's off the grid, so there is no electricity or service. There is a working stove and refrigerator in the community room. It was nice to be secluded for a couple nights. Over all a cool experience!

Provides adventure but has seen better days.

Publié le 23 juin 2023 sur HomeAway
We wanted an adventure and this place provided it. It is cut off from the rest of the world, providing extraordinary forest beauty, peaceful surroundings and no electricity. It is very run down since the pictures were taken and the room was filthy. After making the reservation we noticed that no updated reviews are posted since 2020 and that scared us a bit, but we chose to go anyway to add intrigue to the adventure. Thankfully, the perennial flowers that were planted years ago were blooming in abundance, but so were the weeds that are taking over. The room really needs a good cleaning. The host seemed like a very nice person but he either doesn't care about cleaning and providing some of the bare essentials (linens, towels, soap, candles, matches were all missing and all needed) or he is overwhelmed with all he has to do on his large property. The only toilet is in a shared facility which is an uphill walk and dangerous to maneuver at night if you are not familiar with the area. You really should be in good physical shape to go here because you are either walking uphill or downhill wherever you go and some areas are steep. The best parts of the stay were the billion stars in the sky at night, the sound of the birds, the soft breeze and sunshine (lucky weather days for us), and Happy the friendly dog. It also helps to have a traveling companion with a sense of humor and a sense of adventure.

No clean bedding and there was a bucket for going to the bathroom. We were supposed to put wood chips on our feces in a home depot orange bucket. We did not stay there.
