Alfama - 2 Level Apartment With A Stunning View

The apartment is in an old building and fully renovated by us. We knocked down many walls to create an open and airy feeling throughout the apartment. The terrace was a key feature for us when we bought the place and we have spent many lovely mornings, lunches and evenings there admiring the views and letting the Lisbon sun in. The roof window on the second floor ads to airiness. We love cooking together, and since there are so many great food products available in Portugal, we created a kitchen that is made for team cookings. Lots of space and a kitchen island makes it a great place to be together. The kitchen is integrated in the living room making that area the natural hub for friends and family. Alfama, the old town with its myriad of alleys and lanes, bars and restaurants are just outside the door. Explore the Castle, the Pantheon and the Monastery by foot and take the chance to buy some antiques at the Feira de Ladra (Lisbon's biggest and best flea market). The metro is only 200 meters away from the apartment and gives you easy access to all Lisbon's attractions and there are buses on the street itself getting you out to Expo is 15 minutes.

Property is nice, however the stairs are hard to climb at different levels. The apartment is nicely decorated but has a moldy smell and is damper than other properties in Portugal. There were a few leaks in the roof which I communicated to the host and she was very responsive.

The place was shown how it is in the photos the balcony upstairs is beautiful with the view of the national pantheon, it’s a good location and the host was good at communicating and would recommend, however it is on the third floor so carrying luggage up is a struggle with the stairs.

Good Option in Alfama

Communication with owner was excellent! Location is quiet, but easy walking distance or a short Uber to so many restaurants and sights. Apartment is updated with modern features and has a delightful outdoor space off the upper floor. We found all beds to be comfortable (did not use the day bed in bedroom number 3). A few things that could use attention: The apartment was clean, but had a damp/moldy smell, especially in the 2 main floor bedrooms and bath. Could be due to the age of the building, but then we noticed a moldy shower curtain. Perhaps a dehumidifier would help? Would also suggest supplying a few more bath towels, toilet paper (only 2 partial rolls were available) and a few starter packs of laundry and dish soaps. Finally, some simple instructions on operating the dishwasher and washer/dryer would be helpful for non-Portugeuse speakers. We were able to figure it out via google, but would have been nice to have something posted on the machines.To be clear, we did not contact the owner with these issues during our stay. We had a limited time to enjoy Portugal so did not want to spend time on housekeeping issues. Overall we enjoyed our stay!

the good and the bad

The Good: The place is in a great location and check in was easy. The place has all the modern conveniences. The Bad: The place smells moldy and the towels after one shower smell of mold. The shower curtain was gross and moldy. The second and third room mattresses need to be replaced. The unit was a bit cold and no heating. There were dead bees in the unit and all over in the hallways. I know it is hard with old buildings. We still enjoyed seeing Lisbon.

Spacious, great views and location

Our first trip to Lisbon. The location is very close to the harbor/train station so incredibly easy to get to. We walked to many locations, including nearby train, metro and hop on/off tour bus (Green line stop 11.) The backyard patio is incredible. Good common area with kitchen/dining/living integrated so we could all spend time together. The host was very easy to communicate with and made the trip a joy.

Perfect trip to Lisbon

If you are looking for a place to stay in Lisbon, look no further! This property was functional, beautiful, and in a perfect location for exploring the city. You are a 5 min walk from the metro/train, on a block with many restaurants/bars/shops, and the view from the roof is spectacular. We were a group of 5 adults and everyone felt right at home. Keep in mind the property is on the third floor so be prepared for steps. Lisbon itself is hilly so really not the end of the world! Communication with the host was smooth and the property was as described. Would absolutely return here if we came back to Lisbon!!!

Spacious apartment in a great location!

Our family of 5 enjoyed this apartment. There was plenty of space for everyone and the suite upstairs was perfect. The balcony off the upstairs suite was very nice and had a great view of the church nearby. Having a washer and dryer was convenient. Communication with the owner was easy. We highly recommend this apartment!

Lovely flat, very comfortable great location

Myself and 4 friends had wonderful stay at this flat. The rooftop terrace and views of the cathedral were wonderful. The flat was spacious had everything we needed, lovely out and some nice art, a great shower and a bath and comfortable beds. We would definitely stay again. Thank you Ekaterina

Wasn't cleaned and had an unsafe staircase!

Horrible experience! The place was not cleaned from the previous guests (at all!), and the staircase up to the unit was pitch black and not safe. The owners did not take responsibility to take care of these issues. We arrived early (12:30) to drop off our bags. First, the staircase lights weren't working. It was total darkness with narrow/steep stairs and very dangerous. When we got up to the unit, the cleaners weren't there and the place hadn't been cleaned. We called the owner to tell him about the staircase lighting and that the place wasn't cleaned yet, and he said he'd call the cleaners. We went off for the afternoon and came back at 5:15 (check in was at 4:00), fully expecting the lighting to be taken care of and the unit to be ready for us. We had been traveling for almost 24 hours and just wanted to go to bed. Nothing had been done! The staircase was still pitch black. In the unit it was used bedsheets, dirty towels on the bathroom floor, pizza boxes and a dirty rag on the counter, etc. We called the owner again and emphasized that we have two young kids who need to sleep. He just said he'd call the cleaners to come. We ended up being there until 9:00 at night, first waiting for the cleaners (never came), then contacting VRBO, then scrambling to find two hotel rooms to accommodate family on short notice. The cleaners never showed up and the owner never once followed up with us, which shows a total lack of responsibility.

Great space in a convenient Location!

Very cute apartment within walking distance to a lot of spaces. The location managers were great with communication and were very flexible. Heads up- you have to go up several flights of stairs that are not lit so we always had to have our phone flashlight out and it was hard for my older mother. Other than that small nuance- 10/10!
